Following Doctors’ Orders!
BACON!
Yep – never ignore your doctor’s advice…………we’re definitely following my doctor and Mom is cooking bacon right now…………..yep – nothing smells as delish!
After breakfast is over, Mom says we will need to water all the plans on the deck and on the front porch. They’re growing by leaps and bounds…………but with all the hot sunny days, she has to water EVERY MORNING. Mother Nature hasn’t helped with some RAIN so Mom had to step up!
The deck box plants are blooming like mad!
Mom’s sweet potato vines are getting long – and we know that we’ll have a good crop of ‘taters this Fall when Mom cuts back the vines and cleans out the planters!

What was that noise???? I think it was a chipmunk!
See? No shortage of excitement around my house on a Saturday……………..but the best part of course is the start to the day with BACON!
Yep – this is my policy for sure!!

Mom and Dad are out on the porch in the morning with coffee and on the porch in the evening with a glass of wine (beer for Dad)……..I’m out there whenever I can get out there because I like lying in the sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon! Oh – and bacon – lots of it!

Mother of Kittens!! Look at that sweet potato vine! Mom is jealous. We don’t have the weather for sweet potatoes or a long enough season. I’ll bet those sweet potatoes are wonderful fresh. Hey. I’m the first one here…..do I get a badge for being the first commentater?

My human is not a sweet potato fan… but she thinks the plants are really pretty! Her boyfriend does like sweet potatos – if she was good at growing stuff (which sadly, she isn’t – the catnip did well because of her neglect), she would grow some for him.

My Mom didn’t used to like sweet potatoes that much – BUT now she can’t get enough of them…..go figure. We agree that the vines are gorgeous – Mom usually gets the purple ones AND the lime green ones (foliage not potatoes!) and mixes them up – this year she just got green.

Oh what a wonderful idea! In this heat they would melt right away but Mom wouldn’t have to stand there with a watering can! CLEVER!!!!! I like it (and so does she!). We’re sending healing huggies for Doc!

Doc’s living the life alright – bless him – and he looks so adorable in his hoodie….all snugged in. I hope he is feeling better after having that fatty blob removed…..poor guy…..my sister’s previous pup had a problem with fatty tumors/cysts – they would just keep popping up and up and up. Not FAIR!!

Sammy Doc is doing really well..indeed those things are unfair..this one was pushing his little muscles apart 😦 he is a little red on his groin but we think it is from being shaved..he is eating and enjoying hanging with us while we do yard work 🙂 he says thankyou for the well wishes! Doc is a Tough Troop. He takes his job as “House Assistant/Guardian” very seriously. From burning off to porch patrol, to snoopervising the other Troops, he’s #1 alright. I’m sending him all my spare POTP. Why? Because I love him and so does Mom!

Dear Kosmo……………..Oh sweet potatoes are fabulous (and sweet). Just like a regular potato only beautiful orangey pump and outside skin – baked, boiled, fried – DELICIOUS ALL WAYS! I hope you can find some to try. Here they are grown in flower pots or hanging baskets because their vines are so pretty BUT they ARE potato plants and if you cut back the foliage in the fall, and dig in the soil, you find POTATOES!!!!!!!!

STAY COOL………..we highly recommend CHILLED WINE on your porch or in the shade!!!!! Cheeseburgers would be a nice touch too of course……we have a slightly cooler day ahead with highs in the 80s instead of high 90s.

It’s so funny because I have bought sweet potato vines at the nursery as accents in my planters for YEARS and never realized until a couple of years ago that there were actual POTATOES growing in that soil! Last year we harvested them (not that many because I had them in pots but in the ground they would do GREAT!) and made sweet potato chips which were delicious! The squirrels, chipmunks and birds leave the vines and pots alone so I guess they’re not fans of sweet potatoes.

Morning Sammy…dollars to (fat free) donuts my doc will not prescribe bacon today at my Senior wellness exam. My exam is always in July and seems Mom and dad have been on vacation in June and my sweet sitter loves to give me extra treats..I hope it doesn’t show on the scales

Hi Madi! We had a surprise rain shower yesterday around dinner time and it dumped in a short amount of time a BIG bunch of rain – maybe an inch so purrrrrhaps we got YOUR rain after all???? Mom has never tried to grow regular ‘taters but she does love those too……their vines aren’t quite as pretty though as sweet potato vines. Still, kind of cool that we get sweet potatoes from what was bought as a “pretty plant” for a planter on the deck! SURPRISE SURPRISE!

I didn’t know you could grow sweet potatoes on your deck! I’m not really a fan, but the dogs love them. We’ve been lucky to get just enough rain that we can pass on the watering, well, once in a while anyway. We’ve got lots of nice tomato plants with lots of tomatoes, but if you don’t water them daily, the tomatoes will protest and go bad!

Mom had NO idea that she’d actually get potatoes from those vines – now she feels a bit silly that she didn’t realize that would happen but for YEARS she’d plant the vines just because they were so pretty in the planters – – – at the end of the season everything would get cut back or the soil/plants put in the compost heap but LAST Fall, the little boys from next door came over to “help” and they dug around in the planter soil and FOUND POTATOES! They were edible and quite tasty although SMALL because they’d had to grow in a planter vs. in the ground or in a BIG pot. So you can definitely grow them on your deck – and they were delicious!

Hi Siddhartha! Awww……how wonderful that I’m one of your top three favorite things! Our garden is thirsty all the time but last night we had a nice BIG rain – Mom did NOT have to water today for a change. We used to have TONS of chipmunks around here – now they have vanished. We think the roaming cats have discouraged them but we DO miss them – they are adorables!

Sorry it’s so very dry there Siddhartha – we keep having really HEAVY afternoon showers after a super hot day of sun and scorching temperatures…….we’re glad to get a break with the rain, but a whole day of nice steady light rain would do more good for the lawn!!!! Guess what Unccle?? LadyMum had an Asmah attack when shee came back frum Farmacy today! So shee used new Innhaler an it iss EMPTEE!!! Toe-tally emptee!?!?!? So shee called thee nice Farmacist an asked him to order a new script frum her Doctur…..so shee will have to go back there tonite….shee used her last year Innhaler an it sorta werked…..shee could hardlee breethe!!!!
