Happy July 4th !

Today is a day that we celebrate our independence……many people choose to spend the day giving thanks in church, or participating in special family get-togethers, or just taking the day to reflect on life in this great country of ours.   I’m spending it by starting off having breakfast complete with bacon along with my Mom and Dad.   We will then RELAX and enjoy each other’s company and will NOT be one of the hoards of peeps who will drive their neighbors crazy by setting off fireworks all night or having a loud party or cookout with out of control craziness….oh no….we will be peacefully enjoying the day.

We're decorated though......just a little.

We’re decorated though……just a little.

We have RAIN today which will (so they say) keep all the people who normally flock to Washington, DC for the BIG, GIGANTIC fireworks display on 4th of July away……….they will, instead, probably have them tomorrow night.   They usually are pretty darn spectacular I just admit – we see them on television the next day when they replay the whole show from the fireworks.

This is what it USUALLY looks like down on the Mall in DC with the crowds waiting for the night display!

And they are never disappointed (assuming there’s no rain which would postpone them for a day!)…………some photos of the past fireworks in our Nation’s Capitol:

We are hoping that the world can celebrate with us with a day of PEACE…………………now wouldn’t that be nice?

In addition to celebrating our nation’s birthday, I’m here to remind all of you Teaser fans that tomorrow is Geography Class!   That’s right – we will be having a GUEST TEASER too – so be sharp – be ready – and know that should you be the FIRST to comment on the Teaser post tomorrow (this means YOU!), you will get this:

I was First Commenter on Sammy's Teaser of 7/05/16

I was First Commenter on Sammy’s Teaser of 7/05/16

You may remember LAST week we had FOUR (yes FOUR) people who commented within the first 60 seconds that the Teaser blog went LIVE – a four-way tie so we had four winners of this badge!   Will we do that again tomorrow or will someone be lucky enough to catch it on their own?????    We’ll find out soon enough!

WILL YOU BE READY?

SURPRISE!

SURPRISE!

I’ve been asked if SuzieQ will be out of Rehab in time to cheer us on……………….we will have a substitute cheerleader tomorrow as Suzie is still up to her eyeballs in THERAPY.    Yep – when you’ve gone off the trail as far as she has, you need time to find your way back!   Counselor Grizelda says she’s doing well…………..

SO, I’ll see you tomorrow – meanwhile, join me in celebrating today – July 4, 2016 – another birthday for the land of the free and the home of the brave (and me too!).

Hugs, Sammy (the REAL Uncle Sam!)

  1. My human’s boyfriend is back east right now, not too far from you over in Maryland, and she is really interested in hearing what he is going to do about having a cookout with his sister and niece with the rain you guys are expecting! It’s so dry here that my human is staying home in case someone stupid sets our hill on fire.

    • Oh Summer I hope you don’t have a fire but people do nutso things when they shouldn’t – like having a dangerous cookout when it’s so dry! As for your human’s boyfriend – chances are the rain will put a BIT of a damper on festivities but where three’s a will, there’s a way – some will just open up their garage and cook in there out of the rain – some will put the big picnic umbrella over the grill and fire it up anyway – hopefully he will have a fun but SAFE 4th – like you ladies!!!!!

    • Madi I’m glad you have a “safe spot” – we all need one………we’ve had neighbors around here do fireworks the past two nights – we have RAIN today so wondering if that will mean a quiet night? I hope so! Stay safe!

      Love and Happy 4th!

  3. Happy 4th Sammy and Family! There were a lot of good things to read in this post. I will be here for the Teaser, but clueless as usual I am sure! Hope Suzie is shaping up although I thought she was super funny… 😀 A new cheerleader will be VERY interesting! Your house looks very pretty! We are back from St. Louis where it poured and poured big old rain and now it is raining buckets here although we are in a bit of a break right now. Hopefully we are done with the rain until tomorrow and then it shoots up in the 90 plus degrees for the next 15 days with lots of chances of MORE RAIN! That makes tons of HUMIDITY… ick. We will be having CHEESEBURGERS tonight… yay! While we were in St. Lou someBODY brought a Marie Callender Banana Cream Pie to The Mama’s Birthday party… OH MY!!!!!!!!!!!! We may have to get one of those for today!!! Have fun you three and have a wonderful day!

    • When CH was at the Pentagon we went up to the fireworks display in our boat and while it was very awesome we were lucky to get out of there alive… it was wild and crazy. Good thing we had our rubber baby boatie bumpers out because everyBODY was bumpin’ into each other and it was chaos in the highest form. We never went back by boat for the BIG fireworks the whole rest of the time we were there… whew!

      • Yes – it’s especially wacky on the water……..I spent a day on a boat one of the guys in my brother’s band (many years ago!) lived on – it was a big boat but packed with party peeps and it was kind of out of control – THEN as it got darker out the marina went nuts with people jumping in the water and music loud and it was just insane – THEN for the FINALE – the fireworks started and we were more than happy when it ended and we could GO HOME TO THE PEACE AND QUIET! No wonder you did it ONCE……I guess it needs to be done ONCE but ONLY ONCE! LOL

        • Once was more than enough! But it IS a great memory and we did not get one scratch or any kind of hurtie on our boat although I might have heard a few new curse words that night. We did see lots of peeps jumping in the water which was nuts cause the water was rockin’ and rollin’ AND some of the peeps had not one stitch of clothing on… Yikes! We were in our mid-thirties waaaaaaaaaay back then and lots braver and clueless… 😀 Geez, that was thirty years ago!

          • Mom says her “boat on the 4th” experience was in the 70s……and YES there were very few clothes on the boat jumpers…..and a lot of alcohol and “stuff” was around – the air was – er – um – THICK……Mom spent more time in the cabin than on the deck for sure!!!!! Once is definitely ENOUGH!

    • We’ll look for you tomorrow for the Teaser…..dare I say it might be an easy one? Suzie is shaping up but she will Always be “SOMEWHAT SUZIE”…..meanwhile her sub is a cutie too. We have rain since last night so the DC fireworks will be postponed probably……….the neighborhood started celebrating two days ago though rain or shine – we had boomers both nights – who knows what tonight will bring! CHEESEBURGERS!!! Oh Mom and Dad are having TURKEY sandwiches – something is definitely WRONG with that…….maybe I can talk them into cheeseburgers???? Marie Callender makes EVERYTHING well so I’m sure that pie is fab……..Mom made that dessert she had in Bacon’s Shopping Around the World last week – talk about SINFUL…..holy moly! HAVE A GREAT 4th – RAIN OR SHINE……….we’re getting soggy here too!

  4. Your house looks beautiful with the buntings on it. How lucky you get bacon again. Fireworks are so pretty, too bad they have to be noisy. We are going to start a FREE SUZY campaign, don’t try to change her, she is perfect the way she is. Hope you and your folks have a great 4th!

  6. Happy 4th of July to you and your family, Sammy! I bet the fireworks at the capitol are pretty darn impressive, but I don’t think I’d want to deal with those crowds! We’ll just appreciate our independence quietly at home with each other. 🙂

    • We don’t go into town – Mom hasn’t been since the 70s! They do have a city fireworks here in Warrenton, BUT with the rain we’ve had all day they will be postponed – we’ll have them TOMORROW!

  7. Another day with bacon. You are a lucky cat. It has stopped raining for the moment here. Mom and Dad went to D.C. one year for the 4th. Mom says it was great, but she was much younger. She knows it was at least 25 years ago. Stay safe. May the 4th be with you. MOL! Mau will see you at Scouts in a little while. • WOW…well, it’s good they won’t let fireworks happen if it’s that dry – you sure don’t want a bad fire! We had NO fireworks with rain lasting overnight – it might be September before we can have the 4th of July (hahahahaha).

  11. No luck with the peace thing here… my redneck neighbors have taken over the street blasting and bombing away. And since I live on the very end of the street, I have to somehow get through that to go to work in a few minutes! This is my least favorite holiday of the year….

    • We usually have a ridiculously noisy neighborhood on July 4th and New Year’s Eve when the REST of the year is QUIET as can be. There’s always someone who just HAS to be a “kid again” with the fireworks! Hope you got to work without being blasted by fireworks!!!

  13. Good morning,, Sammy,
I hope you had a wonderful 4th of July, with – as you were expecting – lots of bacon, but no noise from the fireworks. Here, we had a great day, too, although our feline crew was a tad off because we had family here with some young children and our kitties didn’t like their noise. Especially poor Frankie took to the hills and showed up very late in the day only. But they gor nice pats and I believe they aren’t too badly off. Especially now that everybody has gone and the house is quiet again.
    Have a wonderful week,
    Pit

    • Hi Mr. Pit! Glad you had a good 4th even though you had a lot of kids around which the cats didn’t care for! I’m like that too – kids like to pull tails and chase us sometimes……but we have our hiding spots so we can feel safe!!!

  14. Happy Belated Birthday America! I unfortunately spent the day delayed at airports but sounds like you celebrated the perfect way. At home, relaxing together, away from throngs of revellers. Your porch looks cute too! Rain is nice if it was gentle and measured and not calamity inducing. I guess there were some wicked storms in southern Alberta when we were away, luckily not in our area. xo B

    • There has been some terrifically icky weather around – W. Virginia had HORRIBLE flooding but here – while we had tons of rain – we’re on a hill so flooding doesn’t bother us…still, in the low lying areas, people were trapped in their houses, etc. It’s a wacky year for weather EVERYWHERE – looked like you had some good weather on your trip thankfully!

Isn’t it weird that the weather has been strange EVERYWHERE…..and on a trip it’s very tough to know what to pack because you get all four seasons during your trip no matter WHERE you go!!!!
