Filling In and Cleaning House

The FUN part of Friday is the

Friendly Fill-Ins hosted by

15andMeowing and McGuffy’s Reader!

I decided to be sweet and let my Mom fill in this week – we’re kind of taking turns and I think it’s HER turn!    Here are our challenge sentences of the week!   Mom’s responses are in GREEEEEEEN!

1. One quirk I have is ALWAYS having candles at the dinner table for meals!.

2. My favorite comic strip is probably one most people aren’t familiar with – “Mike Du Jour” written by Mike Lester – it cracks me up!.

3. I am really happy almost ALL the time – it’s just ME……but I’m also reall happy that my husband and I found Sammy at the shelter before anyone else did!.
4. If I could go anywhere on a road trip, I would go to Niagara Falls – have always wanted to see them!

OK Mom – thanks for filling in – next week it’s MY turn!!!    Thanks to Annie of McGuffy’s and Ellen of 15andMeowing for this fun fill-in every Friday!

Now – onward to the Friday HouseCleaning Extravaganza!    It was a big thrill to see the Broomhildas bustling around all three floors of my hacienda cleaning here, there, and everywhere.   They are a truly impressive cleaning machine and we’re getting afraid that they will be so popular soon that we’ll have to go back to cleaning this place OURSELVES (gasp!).

Or maybe these two would be interested in the job?

Or maybe these two would be interested in the job?

The Broomhildas said that they’ve been getting tons of calls on their 1-800 number ever since we posted their business card here on my blog……………if you missed it, here it is!

The Broomhildas have their OWN business now! They rate "FOUR PAWS" too so you know they're good!

The Broomhildas have their OWN business now! They rate “FOUR PAWS” too so you know they’re good!

They got all those nasty spots too where spiders hide and where I’ve stashed my toys and private stuff and even my toy box/wagon gets reorganized before they leave for the day!

My toy box is actually a toy WAGON!

Thank you Broomhildas for giving us a nice clean house every Friday……otherwise – well – who knows WHAT this place would look like!     Do you help your Mom with the housecleaning????????  Do you keep your toys nice and neat??????

Oh last thing....putting new toilet paper in the human pottybox room!

Oh yeah….one last thing….putting new toilet paper in the human pottybox room!

Thoroughly Poetic Thursday

Here we are again!  Today is “G” Day!

I thought and thought and thought about what I should write about for “Letter G” and finally settled on GARDENING……….I hope you like my offering for this Thursday’s Poetic exercise!

Beautiful smells as I cruise by

The perfumed air rising to the sky

The busy bees stop by to dip

Into the blooms to take a sip

When I was young and a butterfly came

I couldn’t resist it – like a moth to a flame

I’d watch and wait and would take a chance

To catch it and do my happy dance!

I’d proudly carry my pretty prize

To Mom who gave me her “critical eye”

So I’d let it go – it would fly away

And I’d start my game again the very next day!

When I was younger (and so was Mom!) we used to have BIG gardens full of flowers in our back yard…………….Mom had to work hard to keep them pretty – watering, fertilizing, planting, moving, raking, weeding…………and I would sit with her in the shade and watch.   We no longer have big gardens because it was just too much work (and the deer decided to eat everything in sight anyway once they discovered the “buffet”) so now we have porch and deck gardens.    I still watch the butterflies come and go but now even if they practically land right on my nose, I don’t try to catch them.   Mom and I just sit and watch as we get our visitors to what gardens we have – bees, butterflies, dragonflies, ladybugs, praying mantis, and we enjoy seeing Mother Nature’s critters enjoying our gardens too!

Yesterday my Mom and Dad deserted me for the WHOLE DAY – they drove up to the mountains – just a bit less than an hour away – to Skyline Drive.    I’ve talked about it on my blog before and shown photos but Mom DID take a few yesterday……………Mom said as she sat on the overlook wall where the wildflowers were growing she saw LOTS of bees and even the occasional “mountain butterfly”………………..seems Mother Nature sprinkles her beauty from mountains to valleys to MY BACK YARD!!!!

NEXT Thursday is “H” day…….maybe “Happy”?????

Have a HAPPY Thursday!

Shopping Around The World!

Time to Shop for FOOD!

That’s right – it’s that day of the month for the Shopping Around the World post – a chance for us to share what stuff costs in our area of the universe…..a fun exercise hosted by our buds Fozziemum AND Bacon!

This month’s recipe is for a salad – any salad – and salads are PURRRRFECT meals in the summer when you don’t want some big old heavy meal in your tummy.    I’m not much of a salad guy but my parents enjoy a nice COOOOOL salad in summer.

One of Mom’s faves is a nice SIMPLE  shrimp salad………………….and when I say simple, I mean SIMPLE!

Package of cooked shrimp – 12 oz. $8.99 (remove shell from tails of course!)

One head romaine lettuce – torn into bite size pieces – $1.99

One chopped red bell pepper – $2.49 Each (yes that’s a lot for ONE bell pepper!!!!)

One stalk chopped celery – one bunch of celery $1.99

One chopped cucumber – $.50 each

Mayonnaise to hold it all together!  – 8 oz. jar Hellmann’s Mayo – $2.99

Yeah it’s pretty basic but it’s also pretty good (so says Mom)…………… all gets mixed together in a bowl (except for the lettuce) and Mom adds just enough mayo to coat everything then dumps it on top of the lettuce……….the above recipe is enough for Mom and Dad.   I get a can of Fancy Feast Tuna BUT I also get THREE (yes THREE) of those delightful shrimp Mom has in the salad BEFORE they get mayonnaise on them…….I like mine PLAIN please!

Now we’re gonna visit

everyone else to see what

THEY’RE making in the kitchen today!

See you in the grocery store aisles!!
