It’s All About Mom…..and Me

MOMSDAYSCOUTS

My Mom……by Sammy

A little kitten, tiny and alone

No real home to call my own

I was so lonely and felt so lost

I wanted out at any cost

Then came my very lucky day

Some humans adopted me and took me away!

Oh lucky me, at last a home –

I was warm, well fed, no need to roam.

My life has been so full of love.

I’m ever so thankful to God above.

I’m a Mommy’s boy, through and through

AND,  yes I’m spoiled, that’s totally true.

My Mom’s the BEST and I’m here to say

Happy Mother’s Day Mom each and every day!

My Mom…..by Pam

MOM

One of my fondest memories of my Mom, who passed away in 2001, was when I was a little girl and my Mom and Dad would be getting ready to go to some formal affair at the Officers Club (my Dad was in the Air Force).   My Mom would let me lie on her bed and sort through her jewelry box to pick out what she would wear for the night with her gown……..I’d watch her do her hair and make-up and can distinctly remember thinking that my Mom was really a beautiful Fairy Princess and I was ever so lucky to have a Mom who was so beautiful.   She would smell so good with her perfume and look so amazing all dressed up………and of course she rarely DID wear the things I’d “picked out” for her from her jewelry box as they weren’t right – but she’d always tell me what good taste I had even while putting on more appropriate jewelry from that “magic box” for the evening’s event.   She’d sweep out the door on the arm of my handsome Dad and I imagined them waltzing around the dance floor with all eyes on them.    It was a fairy tale come true……..and I totally believed it.     I’ve always known that there was a whole lot about my Mom (and my Dad as well) that I never knew….they were both very private people and didn’t talk about their parents or much about their lives growing up.   After my Mom died, I found a lot of old letters and photos of people I didn’t recognize and realized there really was so much about her I would have liked to have known.   I have a lot of good memories though.   While going through her things I found a note that said not to grieve her passing and that she would always be with us (me, my brother and sister) and that her biggest joy in her life had been being our Mom.   Now that’s a perfect Mother’s Day memory if ever there was one!

Today I’m going to let Mom have MOST of the breakfast bacon (which is a big sacrifice of course!)……..just to show her how special she is. I hope your Mom’s sausage finger is better today……and I hope you and your Mom get lots of snuggle time in to celebrate the day!

  2. Happy Mother’s Day to your mom, and thank you, Pam, for sharing that memory of watching your mom get ready for an evening out. It brought back similar memories of my mom dressing up for a special event. I have some of the jewelry pieces I remember her wearing back when I was a little girl, and while they’re not my style, they’re such wonderful, tangible memories of her.

    • Happy Mother’s Day Ingrid……..I have a few pieces of my Mom’s jewelry too….reminders of my “Fairy Princess”……I’m sure my Mom’s angel wings are sparkling with SOME kind of jewelry as she really did love to wear pretty things. Many things in life change as we move through it, but one thing stays the same – our memories. Enjoy yours today my friend……and here’s to Moms everywhere!

    • Thank you Phoebe for the compliment on my Mom and on Sam’s poem which I “might” have helped him with just a bit. We’re hoping to have a nice sunny day for a change to celebrate Mom’s Day – my personal “celebration” will be to hop on my tractor mower and get the yard whipped into shape! I love doing it so it’s the PERFECT gift from ME to ME! Enjoy your day…..whatever you may do.

  6. Sammy, happy Mother’s Day. You are indeed a very lucky boy to be surrounded by such love and care. I can tell you know that too with your whole heart sweet boy. And tell your mom how much my mom and I both loved seeing her mom’s lovely picture. I know mom here said she used to think the same thing while sitting on her parents’ bed and watching her mom prepare to go out and arranging her shoulder length red hair. Our moms were fortunate to be so loved by their moms and we, you and me are lavished with love too. xox❤️

My Mom has made every day of my many years happy and love-filled…..who can ask for more? Give your Mom a special present today – maybe your favorite toy for her to borrow?????

    • It was a nice Mother’s Day and I hope you had the same Janet……I do have some magical memories of my Mom but there were also a lot of unhappy memories as well with the illness, Alzheimers, etc. But then again that’s what life is – many things in a potpourri of experiences. I always thought my Mom was very pretty too and I’m sure that’s why I was convinced she was a Fairy princess when I was little….LOL….. Sam is very excited for Mau and Allie and thrilled that he will be Mau’s Best Man for the event of the century!!!!

    • My Mom thinks that the older generation was more private in general – so didn’t talk that much about their own families – or maybe that isn’t ALWAYS the case but it was with both my Mom’s parents. Anyway, glad you liked my poem and Mom’s “shared memory” of her Princess Mom!
