Can It Be Thursday Already?

Standard

YES IT CAN………..not only “CAN” it, but it truly IS.   Well, time is whipping by at an incredible pace and before you know it, we’ll be WELL into Fall and Halloween will be over and we’ll be talking TURKEY (Thanksgiving of course for those of us who celebrate it in November).

Meanwhile, the leaves in my yard are doing their thing………..just gorgeous if I say so myself!

Backyard tree in fall

Talk about ORANGE!

Maples are almost TOO pretty!

Maples are almost TOO pretty!

I am just loving the weather though – I’ve been outside as much as I can get OLD MOM to take me………….sometimes I just sit on the front porch and look out over my kingdom (haha) and think how lucky I am to live here………other times I cruise around a bit (with Mom watching me closely) and waddle (yes I waddle now when I walk) down to the front stone garden to do my business (yes you know what I mean), or walk down the sidewalk sniffing as I go for signs of introoders.   The skunks, raccoons, possums, and rabbits visit during the night time and I can SMELL them the next morning.   They even have the NERVE to come up on my front porch to drink the water from the water bowl that’s out there!

Excuse me Mr. Possum - did someone invite you here?

Excuse me Mr. Possum – did someone invite you here?

Anyway, I do love Fall and Mom and Dad are starting to have fires in the fireplace now which I REALLY like…………….talk about cozy.

I’ve had a lot of email lately from some of you asking about how I’m feeling these days.   Well, I have been very good about taking my thyroid medicine – Mom is still having good luck (mostly) with crushing the pill up and mixing it with either turkey baby food or beef baby food.  I love that stuff.  GOBBLE GOBBLE………I’m on board with baby food!    I don’t hork very often – I’ve always been a horker since I was tiny……but maybe once a week is my average.   All is well on the “potty box” situation too.    So that’s about it for my report other than I DO have mobility issues – if I’m lying down for any length of time it’s tough standing back up again – I will limp my first few steps and go slow then I loosen up.   Mom says it’s just like her and Dad……get stiff in the old joints and it takes a minute to get “steady” on the feet (or paws).

So – there’s the THURSDAY REPORT………Fall is falling, animals are visiting my porch, I’m in good shape for an old guy, and getting excited about SAM-O-WEEN!   I hope you are too??

Hugs, Sammy

  1. Sammy that’s the bestest time of the year… and I bet even Mr. Possum came over to enjoy all that colors in your garden :o) And yes, babyfood is the best thing to hide pills and it even helps when you have a thunderstorm in your tummy :o)

    • True…especially pumpkin baby food for bad tummies….works great! As for Mr. Possum, I’m glad he feels comfortable visiting me but one thing for sure he will NOT be coming in my house!!!!

  2. I can see that fall is gorgeous in your area – maybe I will get to see a real fall someday, but this one is going to be spent on the West Coast. I’m glad you’re doing well “for an old guy” (who is only a few months older than Binga who refuses to be called old!).

  3. Sammy my man….so thrilled to read you are taking you meds like a good Scout. We love the smells of fall and the cooler temps are OK because the radiators become cozy and warm. Mom made covers so the bumps are gone and she knitted blankets to go on them.

    • Charles your Mom is VERY CLEVER to make covers for the radiators – add a blankie and you REALLY have snuggly spots for the cold weather snoozing! We have heating vents in the floors so I “camp out” near one and I’m good to go too!!!

  4. Sammy, mom is going out later and look for trees that are in full color. xo And mom said she and I both really don’t like raccoons at ALL.

    • Thank you Katie…..I have been pretty good about taking it so far…..and so far only one pill is needed to keep me in the right range – I go next month for a 4 month checkup though and paws crossed I don’t have to have TWO pills a day! YUCK!

  5. Oh cousin – I LOVE this time of year. I can move around and run – it’s like my last chance for a run until mean old Mr. Winter sets in. Then it will be semi-hibernation for me until spring. And you have a Possum. I don’t think I’ve met one in my backyard… although there was something out there the other heavy breathing near my bedroom window. I still don’t know what that was.
I’m glad you are taking your medicine – we need you in tip top shape my friend ((hogs and snout kisses)) XOXO – Bacon

  7. Those critters are pretty cheeky to come up on your porch. We think our neighbor kitty does that and digs holes in Mom’s flower pots.

Waddling is just fine, the important thing is to get out and seize the day!!!

    • Oh I do believe you’re right about bacon being a source of HEALING, POWER, MAGIC, and fewer TUMMY RUMBLES. No doubt about it. As for the BURDS – you’re right – soon they’ll fly south but in our case many of them will be hanging around THROUGH winter….we still see cardinals (red devil!), ravens (BOOOOO HISSSSSSS), and bluejays (now those guys are MEAN!) year round. Fall is my fave time of the year too though – even when acorns bonk me on the head whenever I’m outside!

    • Oh I’m glad you’re OK Siddhartha after having a fall……..these things happen but as long as you’re not hurt, I’m happy. My Dad uses cream on his hurty parts and uses something that has NO SMELL called Aspercreme. He used to use a stinky menthol thing but Mom hated smelling it all the time – he switched to Aspercreme and it does just as much good without the stinky!!! YAY!!!!!

      Happy Autumn to you too…

  10. Sammy, your trees are lovely!! Glad to hear you are doing well and watch out for those night critters. My hubby and I went up on the Blue Ridge last week and it was so pretty. Love the fall too.

    • The leaves are probably at peak up there right? Mom and Dad didn’t go to Skyline Drive this year but usually do and the leaves are so amazing up there – looking out over the Shenandoah Valley you see every color of the Fall rainbow!

    • While “outside” can be dangerous, it’s also quite pretty and walking in the grass (and having a grass snack) is quite enjoyable. When I was your age Mom trained me on a harness and leash so I could go for walks in the park or around our house but still be super safe. Now I’m OLD and I don’t need to have that unless I’m outside in the dark with Mom. During the day I don’t wander – I just stay with her!!

  11. What vivid colours of the leaves. We don’t have that kind of colour in our leaves. I love the red maples. Glad all is well Sammy. I know you older kits have it rough at times. Kali seems to have a similar problem but she does her best.

    • Those of us older felines who are lovin’ life just keep putting one paw in front of the other and go on and on and on……Kali and I will do that for many more years I betcha!!!!! We love all the color we get here – has to do with the right mix of rain and cool temps at the RIGHT time…..some years they’re not as pretty – we’re just lucky this year they are!

We think you already heard about this, but just in case…
We’re so sorry we’ve been AWOL. Our other granddad got VERY sick three weeks ago and passed away last Wednesday. We’ve been home alone for much of that time while our humans were out of town helping. *sigh* Our humans lost both their dads in 4 months. They are kind of hoping 2016 will be better…

    • Oh I’m SO sorry to hear this about your Granddads……that’s a LOT of loss in a SHORT period of time. I have to think that things will get a lot better for your family though – at least I hope and pray that they will. My Mom and Dad have no parents left but it’s been many years since they passed away – it’s still hard to think about though no matter how long it’s been and when it’s “fresh” it’s super hard. Anyway, we do send lots of BIG HUGS to all of you!

  13. Love the door guard photo, and your leaves are EXCEPTIONAL! The possum on the porch cracked us up. We remember one time when the humans came home and found a ground hog on the front porch, and our front porch is five feet above ground level. They were surprised he could get up there with his short legs! MOL! XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    • We lucked out somehow on leaves…..with the lack of rain then the floods (!) it was tough knowing what to expect but in the end, we’ve had some beautiful color so far. I wonder if that ground hog sprouted wings and flew up on your front porch! That’s hilarious! We have a couple of possums that frequent the yard here – one of them (or maybe both) come up and munch cat food and drink water. CUTE (in an ugly kind of way!).
