Bacon and Plants (huh?!)

Standard

Yeah it’s another rather unlikely and weird “duo” – bacon and plants (yesterday’s blog was “monsters and plants”!!)  – yet that’s what my blog today is ALLLLLLLLLLLLL about.   Bacon of course because it’s Baconating day around here EVERY Saturday, but plants because I promised to show you what Mom has done so far in my yard………!

Gimme!

Gimme!  (no this isn’t me but substitute my ginger face and it would be me!)

Mom was all set to take photos of the plants yesterday afternoon when WHAMMO her camera battery died so up to the drug store she went and got a new one.  Thanks Mom…….you’ve been promising everyone photos like FOREVER………….so here’s a little slideshow with what’s going on SO FAR at my house……there will be updates  in the future as Mom gets more “stuff” !

By the way, be patient when the window pops up for the slideshow – there are a lot of photos so it might take a second before the show begins!!

So my friends, that’s the state of things Saturday morning but today is another day AND it’s supposed to be sunny and in the 70s and Mom  says while Dad’s at the Manassas Air Show, she’s going plant shopping again!   WOO WOO WOOOOO!

Enjoy your Saturday – I think I’ll be out enjoying my yard…………………AND my deck!

Hugs, Sammy

    • Gosh Easy – seems like it should be time for you to see plants for sale around there – you have decent weather and it’s a great time to plant! I know you’d like to have some flowers to dig up!!!!!!!!! We have TWO “dwarf” plants in our yard….the “dwarf red maple” in the front is almost 20 years old and only 4 ft. tall……..and the new “dwarf butterfly bush” will only get about that same height. Cool huh???

      • egg-stra cool! I don’t know why they have no plants… that’s a miracle…the people we met yesterday at the cemetery were very angry too that they had no plants to add on the graves… my mom thought maybe we can use bean seeds, to have a little bit green around my crib :o)

  3. It looks beautiful there Sammy! Your Mom has been working hard! So she is going to plant shop again today… how fun! CH and I are going to shop for tile to put on The Porch… it’s only taken us 9 years to decide to put tile down. All the choices… it is befuddlement to highest extreme! Enjoy your Saturday Sammy! CHEESEBURGERS tomorrow!

    • Oh nice! Tile on your porch floor will be lovely – and COOL…….My Mom is talking about getting one of those “indoor/outdoor” carpets for our front porch. Supposedly you can just hose them off to clean them AND even though she has throw rugs out there now, the rockers would rock better on a BIG rug (tee hee).

CHEESEBURGERS????? YOU’RE HAVING CHEESEBURGERS TODAY? Lucky you………………

    • We think maybe the foxes have taken care of the rabbits around here because we hardly EVER see a rabbit……many years ago I’d see two or three a day but not any more. Now the deer eat everything!

  4. Hi Sammy,
Your garden looks ever so beautiful. 🙂 Your Mom did a really great job. Here, it’s not so colourful, but great all the same. On Thursday we got 7 new trees, some replacement for the oaks [17 altogether] we had to have cut down 😦 last year because they were dead or dying from oak wilt. So sad. 😦 But at least we have some replacement now. But … now the hard work is on me to put fences around them to protect them from the deer. Well, it needs to be done, and exercise is good, isn’t it? 😉
Enjoy your bacon and the weekend,
    Pit

    • Oh Mr. Pit that’s a lot of work but will be worth it for the great shade you’ll get from the replacement trees. Very sad when oak wilt and other diseases hit beautiful trees. Good for you!!!!!!

      • Hi Sammy,
we’re happy about the new trees. Really happy. And maybe we’ll get some more. Just now, I have my very own nursery going with cedars, oaks and bodarks. Although Mary and I have been joking that we need to live to 150 at least to enjoy them as fully mature trees. 😉 But it’s really fun to see things growing. And to have accomplished something. The garden needs a lot of work still, but I’m getting to it. Slowly but surely.
Have a great Sunday and enjoy your garden and your porch,
        Pit
P.S.: Later today I’m planning on posting some pictures of the new trees.

  5. Your garden and flowers are looking lovely Sammy. Our azaleas are mostly out now, but they don’t look good for long with all the rain.

    Like

    • That’s right – the rain kind of makes the flowers all spotty and they just don’t look as pretty……….ours are just about in full bloom now…….AND Mom got five new “baby azaleas” yesterday – they will be in the back yard.
      Happy Sunday!

    • Hi Miss Sue! Our tulips never DID bloom this year for some reason….Mom thinks the squirrels dug up the bulbs and ate them….that’s possible…they’ve done it before. Everything else is cooperating though!

  8. Everything looks so lovely Sammy. I will be doing a bit of garden spucing too. I FINALLY had a plant identified that I bought at a stall and thought was an azalea. It is a “Brazilian Plume” In Australia? it is very pretty and hardy. Your lovely flowers inspired me to find out once and for all. 😀

    • Hi Nellie! Mom is working on it but not as much as she used to do……it’s tough on her back (and front and sides and up and down and all around…haha). Anyway, she bought a few more things yesterday – our lantana is in and she bought a pineapple sage plant for our herb garden. Today will be in the 80s for the first time – I’m gonna be a “PORCH BOY” !!

  12. What a beautiful yard you have, Sammy!!! I know your supervision and direction played a significant role in producing such a magnificent yard. I’m so glad you didn’t have to risk your life dragging a wagon down the road to the garden store. I was worried for you for awhile there!

And how is it that you get so much blogging done when your mom and dad are gardening? Doesn’t their gardening require an excessive amount of computer usage? I’m really starting to think my moms didn’t need the computer to garden, but were just trying to keep it away from us!!
