I Love Shopping!

Standard

Oh it’s another of my favorite days to blog – Bacon and Fozziemum’s “Shopping Around the World” where we all go shopping and  compare prices on a specified list of “THINGS” !!!    It’s so  cool to see what the differences in prices are  around the world since bloggers are EVERYWHERE and so many pawticipate in this fun event………… so “on with the show” !

SHOPPINGAROUNDTHEWORLD

Here’s what we were supposed to shop for this month AND I’ll post what I experienced while shopping:

  1. Seasons are changing – what do you pay for HVAC this time of year  AND what temperature do you keep your thermostat set on?    WELL, this one is easy – right now we are in a funny “early Spring” transitional phase.  We aren’t using HVAC at all – we either have windows open or closed to take advantage of Mom Nature’s beautiful early Spring weather.  Most of our days are in the high 60s/low 70s and our nights are in the 40s and 50s.  If we DO turn on the heat  on a rainy/damp/colder day, we set the thermostat at 70.   If we have to turn on the A/C on a hottish kind of day, we keep it at 70.   So this time of year we’re not paying enough to even MENTION because we just rarely need either heat or A/C!
  2. Favorite Meat:   My Mom has 1,001 ways to make stuff from ground beef
1 lb. 93% lean round beef $5.99

1 lb. 93% lean round beef $5.99

3.  Favorite Vegetable:   How about potatoes?   My parents ONLY buy Yukon Gold potatoes………….

5 lb. bag $4.99

5 lb. bag $4.99

4.   Random Item:    Our random item this month is fresh corn on the cob – another fave for a cookout…..

Fifty cents each

5.   Homemade Dish including Ingredient Prices:     Mom’s favorite “quick to make” dessert is blueberry cobbler (EASY PEASY)

Ingredients:    Butter (  16. oz. Lake O Lakes butter is $4.85)

Bisquick  ( 20 oz. box $2.79)

Sugar (2 lb. bag $1.89)

Milk (32 oz. 2% milkfat milk is $1.79)

Blueberries (6 oz. pkg. fresh blueberries $2.99)

Quickie Blueberry Cobbler

Quickie Blueberry Cobbler

Recipe (just in case your mouth is watering and you must have this cobbler immediately):

6 tablespoons melted butter

1-1/4 cup Bisquick

1/2 cup sugar

2/3 cup milk

3 cups blueberries

Preheat oven to 350 – pour melted butter into 8 or 9 inch square baking dish.   In bowl whisk Bisquick, sugar and milk and pour over the butter.  Sprinkle the blueberries over the top.  Bake 2-47 minutes until golden brown and serve warm (preferably with a scoop of vanilla ice cream!).

Now – excuse me while I go see what the REST of you have done with your “Shopping Round the World” posts today!!!!!!!

    • The cobbler recipe is so ridiculously easy it’s almost like cheating but Mom says it’s delish so that’s what matters right? Guess what – we had to turn on the heat last night and it will be on tonight as it’s been COLD COLD COLD!

  2. My human never cooks – her boyfriend is the one who is usually in the kitchen – but she should surprise him with that blueberry cobbler recipe when he gets back from his shows back east! He loves blueberries and gives me cantaloupe, so he deserves a treat!

    • Oh that would be a nice surprise for your human’s boyfriend – blueberry cobbler is nommy – sometimes I get some of the ice cream! I’ve never tried cantaloupe Summer but I know you like it – I’m gonna see if Mom will get me some next grocery trip!

    • HAHA on the cobbler………I bet your Mom could make that for you! Maybe she could add pieces of chew-bone instead of blueberries for you??? The Yukon Gold potatoes are extra delish – Mom used to only buy white potatoes but someone said to try the Yukons and she’s ONLY bought them for a few years.

  4. Oh darn….we missed this AGAIN 😦 We sure wish we didn’t have to use A/C right now….the electric bill is creeping up. It was $142 this month and that’s going to double by summer.

    Please send cobbler to Florida…..thanks!

  5. This shopping list is making us hungry!
That’s so nice that you aren’t having to use your HVAC! We have our on, but the weather has been cool enough that it isn’t having to run too much, especially at night. We keep the air on 75 during the summer, and the heat on 67. Otherwise our bill is just too high!!!

  6. No heat!! OMC…we couldn’t take that. Your prices do sound similar to ours and usually you are cheaper but meat is a ridiculous price. That Blueberry Cobbler looks so good, mom’s going to copy the recipe down and get bisquick the next time she goes shopping. She is unable to pound pastry so would like to just mix it.

    • The cobbler is GREAT with a any fruit in it…………..yes – we just haven’t had to use the heat OR a/C yet this Spring but those kind of days are few……….we’ll be using both of them I’m sure. In fact tonight it’s COLD so I think Mom will be turning it on for sure!

  8. That cobbler looks delicious and mum thinks she will make it, but she doesn’t know what bisquick is. She buys her potatoes from a nearby farm for £5 (about $7.50) for a big sack. She doesn’t know the weight but is probably at least 30 pounds, so they are very cheap.

    • Bisquick is one of those mixes in a box that has all the stuff in it already to make pancakes, waffles, biscuits, a coating for fried chicken, etc. If you google “Bisquick” I’m thinking you can find the ingredients that are in the box and just replicate that with regular stuff from the pantry – Bisquick is a “shortcut” for baking and Mom loves it. She’s making pancakes with it for breakfast this morning!!!!! WOW on the potatoes – Mom has often said she thinks she could buy most of the stuff she gets at the grocery from farmers markets around here but it’s just “easier” to go to the grocery. Dad and Mom DO get their tomatoes and corn from the farmers market ALWAYS though!

      • Thanks for explaining the Bisquick.
Because we live in the country we are closer to the farm than the grocery store to buy the potatoes. Mum grows her own tomatoes, but they are not usually ready until the end of July. She grows the small cherry tomatoes too and eats them like sweets every time she walks past the greenhouse.

        • We have a tomato plant (just one) every year on our back deck in a big pot. Mom has already planted this year’s “BEtter Boy” tomato plant and it has blossoms on it. Mom and Dad love love love their little homegrown tomatoes. Mom has done the cherry tomatoes before and like your Mom, used to go out and pluck some and pop them in her mouth to enjoy – they’re always SO sweet!!!!!
