Plain Old Thursday

Standard

FLOWERBANNER1

It’s just a plain old day……….no celebrations here, no special occasions, no  complaints, no weather issues, no parties, no  videos, just PLAIN Thursday.

Plain old me.....

Plain old me…..

I managed to spend yesterday being very plain too……………I slept a whole lot.   I also asked to go outside a whole lot.    I’m enjoying getting a good sniff of this Spring air.   There’s a slight  aroma of flowers on the breeze – our pink dogwoods are CLOSE to being fully open and they do have a lovely and subtle smell…….I can also smell freshly mown lawns – not at my house but somewhere in the neighborhood.   Smells great……….smells Springy!

Pink dogwood just starting to pop with Bradford pear fully "popped" through the branches!!

Mom has a whole lot more planting to do around here – the deck boxes and more plants on the front porch in pots…………maybe a little bit here and there in the yard……….so it’s bound to get even nicer in the next couple of weeks.   I’ll like that…..I’ll also enjoy being on the front porch with Mom and Dad when they’re sitting in their rockers talking.   They almost ALWAYS do that before dinner every day  – sit on the front porch and talk and  sometimes have a glass of wine together.   That’s where they plot and plan little trips out into the country to go antiquing or  shopping or just plain driving to see the beauty of rural Virginia.   We are SO LUCKY to live in such a beautiful place.

What’s your favorite thing about Spring?

    • Oh wow – Easy I bet those are fun to pursue..you get to dig and dig and hopefully find PAYDIRT (aka Mr. Mole)……..searching through the holes for moles – sounds like the purrrfect way to spend a sunny afternoon Weimarana Jones!

  1. Mom says “plain” and “boring” can be good things, especially when compared to “drama” and ” more drama”. Your porch is arooootiful, mom dreams of having one just like it one day.

    • Hi guys! Your Mom is right….compared to drama, boring is good. Boring is our lives here most of the time since Mom and Dad retired – I have nothing but ATTENTION which is fine with me!!! Hope your Mom has her dream porch one day…………..porches are fab!

  2. I LOVE spring! It makes me spring!! MOL There are lots of mousies and birdies around (don’t tell the Staff Person!) You are lucky to live where you live, Sammy and so am I 🙂

We just love your mom’s paintings 🙂

    • Hi Austin…..Spring puts SPRING in my step too Austin! So much to sniff and enjoy….my favorite thing these days is lying in the sun on the front porch in the morning. You’re right – we’re all lucky to be where we are and have loving families……wish ALL kitties could know that kind of love!

(Tell your pawrents that, one day when they’re sitting, rocking and planning a Virginia trip, they need to plan a visit to see their Smithfield furriends….hint, hint, hint….!)

    • YES that is Mr. Fern from the bathroom – he’s graduated back out to the porch now that he’s survived Winter inside. He lot about half his fern fronds but I think he might pop out some more now that he’s getting fresh air again!!!!

  4. We are going to have a plain old Thursday too. I think we are going to get some rain though. Your pink dogwoods are delightful! And your porch.. ♥ My favorite thing about Spring is probably all the birds. I have always liked your Mom’s painting of that porch!

    • I love that painting too……..I’d like to live there – that canoe on the lake – the rocker on the porch…..hidey spots UNDER the porch for kitties!!! But I have a good place here too…..we’re about to get some rain and that will encourage our pink dogwoods to pop open ALL THE WAY! I like PLAIN days……..and cheeseburgers!

  5. Spring is the best with its renewal of the earth’s beauty. Our pears are ending now, but the dogwoods are lovely. It has turned cool at home…very cloudy and rainy. Enjoy your quiet day. 6. You are lucky, indeed, Sammy! Those evenings before dinner with your Mom and Dad while they sip wine, talk, and rock on the front porch sound absolutely lovely! Have a great PLAIN Thursday!! 🙂

  7. Newsflash! There’s nothing ‘plain’ about you Sammykins. You’re orange and fluffy and have extra toes and really cute for a senior….not everyone can say that. Mom and Dads evening on the porch sounds puuuurrrfectly wonderful too. Do you go out with them to have a little walkabout Sam?
It’d be hard to go in and cook dinner after enjoying wine on verandah I bet? I’m looking forward to planting my baskets soon too. We’re about 4 weeks out from the May long weekend. That’s when we typically go crazy at the garden centre. Our lawn looks horrid. The snow just melted, so it’s brown and matted…needs a Bommdee-tude adjustment 😀 Have a fluffy day! xo B

    • Our lawn is just now “waking up”……Dad put the first Spring fertilizer on about two weeks ago and that has helped WAKE IT UP. Brown grass is just not for me – I like nice green grass for munching! I do get to go out on the front porch when Mom and Dad are out there…never on my own but when they’re there, I’m there! Mom says after a glass of wine she has more FUN cooking (yeah sure Mom). Thanks for all the nice things you said about little old me! 😉

  8. I see you are resting up for the big trip to Paris 🙂 My favorite part of Spring is pussy willows, the cats love the open windows.

    Like

    • Oh I love pussy willows………we don’t have any here but can’t you start them from a cutting? They usually have them at the florist – Mom could get some and stick them in the ground and we could grow our own!

  9. SAMMY WHAT AN INSPIRING POST….YEP FOR SURE WE ARE HAVING AN UNEVENTFUL DAY HERE TO AND VERY THANKFUL FOR IT. THERE HAS BEEN A LOT OF TREE CUTTING ETC OF LATE.
MY FAVORITE PART OF SPRING IS WHEN THE PEEPS STOP BRINGING IN POLLEN ON THEIR FEET…WHY…WELL BECAUSE MOM HAS THE SUCKING MONSTER BY THE FRONT DOOR. EVERY TIME THEY WALK IN SHE SUCKS THE POLLEN OUT OF THE RUG. I DON’T LIKE SEEING THAT SUCKING MONSTER ALL THE TIME

    • Oh dear – you have to see/hear that sucky thing all the time? That would drive me nuts too. We (so far) don’t have pollen…..it will be there in full force in about a week or so but right now things are just beginning to pop. I HATE HATE pollen – that yellow stuff gets everywhere but I still wouldn’t like my Mom using Mr. Monster ALL THE TIME!

    • You’re safer inside your house…….I only go out if I’m on a harness OR if I’m with my Mom or Dad. But it’s also wonderful to have open windows and nice smells to enjoy from INSIDE!

  11. Pretty boring here most of the time too, Sammy. We had a warm spell with lots of open windows and doors but it has cooled off a little so none of that lately. Mom has been going crazy getting plants for pots for the porch. I think it will be very pretty when she is done. I get to go out on my harness when she sits out there sipping her wine!

    Like

    • I do the SAME THING Christy! If Mom is on the porch I’m allowed to go out without my harness on too – AND she also sips her wine while we’re out there….our porch though needs a LOT more decorating – more plants!!!

  14. Nothing wrong with a plain old day of good rest:) We remember all the beautiful flowers in your yard from last year. Mom says she has to wait until May before doing our pots because our nights can get cold sometimes.

    Happy Thursday.

    • Goose candy is everywhere this time of year…..although I don’t get to go down to the pond here to find out how it tastes!!!! Street naps – there’s nothing like a good street nap is there Cupcake? The closest thing I get to that is a driveway or front porch nap and that’s not bad either!!!!

  16. Plain old days are good for just taking it easy. I like that all the mousies are running around in the Spring. They keep saying, “Catch me if you can!” so I do. The pigeons have made a nest in our pittosporum tree and keep making noises in there and flapping their wings.I climbed up today to see what was going on. Their nest is on the ground now!

    • Uhoh – were there any eggs in the pigeon nest??? It’s THEIR fault for building a nest where the OFFICIAL GUARD CAT could get to it! Tee Hee……………have some fun in the fields catching those mousies Flynn! I’m just happy that you’re feeling good enough to hunt!

Autumn flowers are flowering here. Kangaroo Paws (plant) and New Guinea Impatiens and of course lots of Aussie Fuchsias. ❤
