Sneaking Up On Spring

Standard

Did you know the first day of Spring is March 20th??????  That’s right……….it’s NOT all that far away.  However, trust me, that doesn’t mean that it will be flowers and bees and picnic blankets and cookouts on March 20th………………a few years ago this was March here:

March2013snow1 LateMarchSnow2013-4 LateMarchSnow2013-1

SO, anyway, the mere pawsibility that March might bring Spring has me fired up………..I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ready.   Winter seems longer every year that I’m alive and my Mom and Dad say the same thing……..we can’t wait for:

SpringYard2013-2No more house on the hill?????The bradford pears are blooming along the driveway! Bags of mulch at the ready 'round the bottom.....

Early misty morning front garden

My Mom spent today with me snoopervising her of course rearranging some of the paintings she has on the walls of “her” room – which originally was her art studio/writing studio when she and Dad built this house.   She’s no longer writing books and she draws a little bit but doesn’t do oil paintings anymore.   I’m bringing that up because lots of you probably  have never seen any of my Mom’s paintings…………..would you like to?    (those of you who have seen these before just skip past the slideshow…..hahahahaha)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Am I “bragging” on my Mom?   Maybe………..   Is that “tacky” to do?   Maybe………..but I did it anyway!!!!

Big Hugs,

Sammy the Proud Son

  1. We’re having gale force winds so it doesn’t feel very springlike with us 😦 Here’s hoping it’ll come soon. There are lots of your Mom’s paintings there we haven’t seen before – all gorgeous!

    • We’re having a whole lot of wind today too – bringing in another cold front with a chance of some light snow tomorrow……..we’ll see……..Spring is a LONG ways away I’m afraid……Glad you enjoyed Mom’s paintings! There are more but no sense in overdoing!

  2. No Sammy, it is not tacky to brag about your mum’s lovely paintings. They remind my mum of when she cruised from Quebec to New York. Are any of them in the Bay of Fundy area?

  3. It’s not tacky at all to brag on such a talented mom. Your mom is a great artist and writer. She’s lucky to have an outspoken agent like you….

    • Abstract art is popular – just look at the paintings we see hanging in art galleries that are worth 87 bazillion bucks! “Art is in the eye of the belolder” says my Mom………..I say “treats should be in the stomach of the kitty”…………..HAHAHAHA

      • yes I’ll second that saying of the treats… mom’s art is more “poopular”, because she thought B.I.G. and tried to copy a painting she saw in that Louvre-crib…. my dad got a laughing fit as he saw it he and said, that’s very good she never has to fear trouble for art forgery, no one will notice a similarity hahahaha

        • Easy you made me and Mom giggle…..my Mom tried painting “loose and wild” but just can’t do it. Not sure what that means about her but she spends forever making sure lines are perfectly straight and colors are just right, blah blah blah instead of just letting loose and having FUN with it. At least your Mom enjoys what she’s doing when she paints – my Mom enjoyed her painting years but now I’ve got her TOTAL attention – she doesn’t have time for painting or writing or anything but her precious, adorable, elderly ginger boy!!!!!!!!

    • Hi Madi! Glad you like Mom’s artwork……yesterday after she rearranged all those paintings she “retired” her big old easel down to the basement so I’d say that’s a FOR SURE sign she’s putting a period at the end of the “I’m a painter” sentence!!! Gives me more lap time after all………Mom adores lighthouses (obviously) too – we think lots of people do – something “haunting” about them maybe. Anyway, I’ll pass your compliments on to Mom – it will make her day!

    • She doesn’t paint anymore but she used to……….she kept some of her favorites and they hang in her office/studio but she sold LOTS and LOTS in galleries and shows “way back when”. Thanks for the compliment though – made my Mom smile BIG!

  5. I love all the paintings but especially the one of the porch with the rocker leaning against the front of the house… boat tied up at the shoreline. I LOVE the Spring/Summer pictures of your property Sammy. The house on that green green grass is beautiful… Bradford Pears getting their bloom on! Dang… love the bridge too, sure looks familiar! And the lighthouse on the rock ledge with that faint little moon.. It is the moon? It is 6 degrees here this morning, so not feeling very Spring-like. But we are supposed to rebound and by Saturday be in upper 60s! Grill weather! Enjoy your Thursday Sammy and thanks for sharing your Mom’s paintings.. nice views this morning.

    • Hi Miss Pix! So happy you enjoyed tiptoeing through Mom’s paintings….HAHA….the porch and rocker/boat is my favorite too. We hope our spring/summer photos from the last couple of years inspire the yard to look that nice THIS Spring but our lawn has been pooping out the last couple of years……erosion and several years of having a lawn service (!!). Dad has taken back the project of lawn maintenance though so MAYBE we can coax it back to life! Today we’re at 32 and the wind is 87 million miles per hour…..we’re getting blown away! Spring seems like light-years from happening! 😦

Grill weather better get here soon…………………………OR ELSE!

We don’t have snow but the cold is making me want to sleep until Spring. Will you wake me then please? XOXO – Bacon

I might have seen a few of your works of art before, but it’s fun to see them all together. I say brag away. You’re mom’s a blogger, that’s what we do here is share our projects and inspire other would be braggers. Errr, I mean artists, LOL. BTW, your new header is very fetching. • Hi Tabbies!!! You sure did make Mom feel good with that HIGH number of people standing! HAHAHAHA Mom used to have a website and DID sell her photos on greeting cards….people could pick out their favorite paintings and Mom would print them and send them with envelopes…….it was very successful but TIRING. HAHAHA She could barely cover costs too which wasn’t so smart of her BUTTTTT she has thought about Etsy before – actually I have a Cafepress shop already and it would be EASY PEASY for Mom to add notecards there. Hmm….something to think about!!!!

    • Mom loves painting landscapes and buildings but people and animals NO…..she says if she can’t make it look EXACTLY like the person or animal she won’t do it. She used to do caricatures though because they didn’t HAVE to look exactly like the person or animal but she doesn’t even do those any longer….but she really used to love doing things like pen/ink drawings of old houses, etc.
