Shopping Around The World!

Standard

Hello!   Two posts from me in one day?  Well, stranger things have happened!    I wanted to pawticipate in my Cousin Bacon and Fozziemum’s “Shopping Around The World” blog hop because I do think it’s interesting to see how DIFFERENT prices of the same stuff can be in different parts of the world.

For my part, this is what the shopping list (popcorn, beer/wine, chocolates/ice cream and random item of my choice) came to when Mom checked the items out in our stores here in Warrenton, Virginia!

1.  POPCORN – my Mom and Dad don’t have it that often but when they do, it’s microwave popcorn…..I like to steal a piece of it from Mom’s bowl and push it all over the living room until it starts falling apart.  I don’t EAT it – I just play with it!

BACONSHOPPINGPOPCORNGood old Orville Redenbacher………………….a three-pack for $3.49

2.  BEER/WINE – well of course I don’t “indulge” but my Mom and Dad have been known to have a brewski (Dad) or glass of wine (Mom) once in a while.  My Dad is the KING OF BREWSKIS though and his favorite is often on sale so Mom gets it for him as a treat (I prefer kitty treats myself)!   My Dad had Warsteiner for the first time when he and Mom were on a river cruise in Germany…….it was on tap on the boat – the bottled stuff is good but not QUITE as good as on tap!

BACONSHOPPING2Dad’s Favorite – Six-pack $8.99

3.  CHOCOLATES – oh dearie me – now this is one of those things that sends my Mom into orbit because she is a self-professed chocoholic.  She loves the stuff……maybe more than she should.  Santa Paws brings her a BIG box of Godiva chocolates every year (or else Mom will write him a nasty letter).   If not Godiva, she likes Ghirardelli!

BACONCHOCOLATE  Watch out candy aisle……my Mom coming through!!!!     $2.69 for 3.50 oz. bar

4.  ICE CREAM – this is another thing that we don’t often have in our house.  WHAT????  NO ICE CREAM????  I know…sinful isn’t it?  And I’m sure “the kitty/me” would enjoy a lick or two or three of ice cream once in a while but do we have it here?  Rarely!   If we DO, it’s gotta be Breyers Cherry Vanilla though!

BACONICECREAM$5.99

5.  RANDOM ITEM – our “random” is one of those things Mom keeps two or three of in our basement freezer for those nights when she just plain does NOT feel like making dinner.  Where would the world be without frozen pizza?  I don’t know and I don’t WANNA know!   Thanks DiGiorno for feeding my parents from time to time!

BACONPIZZA$5.99  (say…….if this is the same price as the ice cream – I vote for the ICE CREAM instead of the PIZZA!!!!!)

So that’s my shopping list for this time around………………..

Hugs,

Sam (who prefers yogurt)

  1. Hi Sammy,
Your Dad is MY MAN! Drinking Warsteiner! That’s one of my favourite beers, too, no matter if it is the Pilsener or the Dunkel. I agree with your Dad, draught is best. And fortunately I can get draught Warsteiner – as well as Bitburger [also a favourite of mine] – here in Fredericksburg.
    Have a great day,
    Pit

    • My Dad loves Warsteiner but hadn’t had it until he and Mom were on the Avalon cruise down the Rhine a few years ago. Mom can buy it at our grocery store for him as a “treat” but he does say draught is BEST with ALL beers. Mom says Bitburger isn’t a familiar name but she’s gonna look in the store – maybe that’s yet another brewski he’ll love!!!

  4. Awesome cousin! Thanks so much for shopping with us this month. My mom and your mom – we know they are already related – ❤ their chocolates. They have Godiva in common. Did you know that when mom/dad got married they had seashell shaped Godiva chocolates on their wedding cake? Small world huh? Great prices and I gotta try me some cherry ice cream now. I'm off to put that on mom's shopping list. XOXO – Bacon

  5. Sammy I had NO clue that even in the U.S. microwave popcorn is common :o) wow your chocolate has that big nuts too!… and now I have to look for my issue box, because my mom drooled on my keyboard as she saw your ice cream :o)

    • Hi Easy! Oh yes indeed – microwave popcorn is the only way to go and there must be a bazillion kinds here – one of Mom’s faves is caramel popcorn…..but since she eats everything but the sofa (hahaha) she’d probably eat TUNA flavored popcorn if there was such a thing! Sorry to make your Mom drool – that means you now have a messy keyboard!

  6. You don’t EAT the popcorn, Sammy?! Delilah is appalled — that is one of her favorite foods! That and pizza, neither of which she gets very often. Maybe just a bite or two every now and then. Now for the ice cream… that is Mom’s absolute favorite thing ever!!! She likes plain vanilla though – she says that way she can make it any way she wants. Maybe add Oreos, or M&M’s, or just chocolate syrup, or maybe just even plain! Dad likes to add fruit to his. Such yummy treats on your list!!!

    • I prefer playing with popcorn but I know there are some cats like Delilah who love it! Ice cream I can eat and I have tried pizza and like it too…………That was Bacon’s list but it just happened to be a good list for us since we love all the stuff on it!!

  10. Hi Sammy,
Maybe yout Mom should check out Whole Foods. There are a few stores [http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/list/state?page=18] in Virginia. I don’t know, though, how close to you. But if it’s not too far: they usually have a good selection of German beers. Btw, Koenig Pilsener is good, too.
    Have a good one,

  11. I axed TW about those things and she said German beer is the bestest and that’’s the going rate for a six pack. She and Pop buy a case of Yuengling (America’s first beer brewed in PA) for $17 and it lasts like 5 months. Gramps would only eat Breyers Cherry Vanilla too. My peeps buy the brand that on sale for under $2.50. They eat Kettle Corn at $1.99 instead of popcorn and don’t eat frozen pizza cos it has too much salt.

    • CK your folks are smart to get their Yuengling by the case – that’s good brewski (so says my Dad). Frozen pizza is CRAZY with salt and my Mom and Dad shouldn’t eat it – thank heavens they RARELY do but in an emergency it works! I have been known to steal a tiny corner of pepperoni when “SOMEONE” wasn’t looking!
