Friday Fun

Standard

You know, for a while now – since I was diagnosed with the thyroid THING, I haven’t been as playful as I used to be……………I’ve got this GREAT BIG pile of toys in my toy wagon but no matter how hard Mom tried to get me to play with stuff in it (and she DID try), I wasn’t interested……..I just lay around and either stared into outer space or watched the inside of my eyelids (sleeping of course).    Lately that’s changed – and I’m doing several of my “old behaviors” which has made my Mom and Dad VERY happy.

My toy box is actually a toy WAGON!

I played “chase” with Dad last night in fact for the first time in FOREVER.    Chase is when Dad rolls one of my balls across the floor into another room and I am waiting for it there……He’ll roll the ball from the living room into the kitchen (I wait under a stool at the counter for that one), then when he’s retrieved it from wherever it lands in there I go racing into the dining room under a chair and wait and he rolls the ball into the dining room……then I run through the foyer into the library and wait by the stair………..he rolls it in there and then completes the “circle” by rolling it back into the living room.  It sounds lot more like my Dad’s playing ball with HIMSELF since he’s the one retrieving the ball BUT trust me – this entertains me for AGES…………………I love racing ahead of the ball and watching it come at me (and seeing the old guy crawling around on the floor is fun too).

Keepin' Cool INSIDE!

Under the dining room chair waiting for that ball to come my way!

Also I did something two nights ago that I haven’t done in probably five or six years.   I came into my Mom and Dad’s bedroom in the middle of the night and woke Mom up crying for her to pick me up and put me on their bed!   YES I DID!!!!   She popped me up there and I slept for a couple of hours then woke her up to put me down on the floor and off I went for a while and came back AGAIN only this time I got up on the bed MYSELF!   Scared Mom to bits because she was sound asleep and it’s not EASY for me to get up on their bed.  See it’s one of those WAY HIGH UP beds………..they tried to get me to use stairs or a stool but I will NOT.    I slept with Mom for a while longer then we both got up and started our day.

masterbed

I can’t make this leap any more….and I refuse stairs, chairs, stools, blanket chests ANYTHING to help me except my Mom. She pops me up there if I ask!

Now I haven’t done that again since the other night – mostly I did it because (a) I wanted to show them that I COULD still do it and (b) I wanted to prove to myself that the old guy still has it.    HAHAHAHAHAHA

So today is Friday and I’m sure something FUN will happen…………………that is after the vacuum gets put BACK in the closet after my parents clean the house.   Then who knows WHAT I’m liable to do!   I’m unpredictable these days!

HAPPY FUN Friday

    • Hi Charles! High Six back to ya buddy…….I think we continue our annoying cat behaviors FOREVER……we start out with more variety when we’re little but we perfect the art of being “annoying” as we age. HAHAHAHAHA

  1. Motor Mommy and I played “chase” last night down the hall with my favorite ball. As you said about your dad, it was mostly HER playing, but I was having fun too!
SO glad you’re feeling like yourself again, Sammy! Such a relief to your family and furiends!

    • It’s fun to watch humans play isn’t it? I think they believe that they are acting like WE do but it’s pretty funny when they talk baby talk to us and crawl around on the ground……we do that stuff so much more ELEGANTLY don’t you think Sundae???

    • I agree….in fact I think the list of “THINGS CATS SHOULD DO” says “keep them on their toes”……from what I can tell, most of us manage to do that pretty darn well!!! Have a great weekend……..

    • It’s entirely possible that my run-ins with Elfvis drove me to do the impossible feat of hopping up on Mom’s bed…..I asked for help the first time but made it the second time! Hopefully the medicine is finally kicking in. It’s been just over three months which is about what the doc said. Maybe he DID know what he was talking about??????

    • Yes, Flynn had some downs too and is only just now feeling his oats (!) and doing better. He still has some appetite issues but in my case, losing weight was better for me with my arthritis! WOOT! I’m glad you’re happy – we are too!

  4. I use my stairs to the bed all the time. I can’t do without it. You need to put your mind to it-pretend that there’s a good treat there. You’ll figure it out.

    • Mom hasn’t given up……she still gets those stairs out once in a while hoping I’ll use them and putting some treats up on the bed is a GREAT idea…..the bad part is going DOWN the stairs really…..it’s scary!

  5. Oh, Sammy, if we could watch a video about you and your dad playing ball!!! BTW, I think you could also involve your mom into this activity by rolling around a ball of wool in the house!

  6. awwwww, what a happy Friday Post Sammy! I can’t imagine getting up on that bed either. Gads!! I bet Mum and Dad will need stairs one day too, LOL. Blossum and Petals always sleep on our bed, which isn’t always a good thing. Blossum wakes me up (or tries) several times a night to get pets and snuggles. Sometimes I just bury my head under a pillow.

I love how you make daddy go room to room with your ball, LOL He doesn’t ever need to go to the gym, you’re like a personal trainer. I’m so glad to hear you’re gently kicking butt and showing mom that you’re feeling more yourself sweetness! xoxo Boomdee

    • I hadn’t thought of it like that but I guess thanks to ME, my parents get some kind of exercise…….Mom’s lifting me up and down from stuff and helping me with stairs and Dad’s chasing my toys around while I watch. I’m truly an excellent purrrrrsonal trainer!!!!

    • Hi Cupcake! It’s pretty funny that my Mom does all the fetching in this “game” but then again, at least I’m running around a BIT watching her so I’m getting exercise too! My Dad is great….and really I’m just one of those super lucky guys who has it all. You and I have THAT in common Cupcake – wonderful humans who love us to bits!

  13. That is good news that you are getting a lot of your old behaviour back Sammy. That will make your people very happy.
I have been playing again as well, but I had 2 bad days in a row this week. Mum thinks it is down to after effects of the antibiotics rather than the thyroid problems. I didn’t want to eat even with my appetite pills, but I am feeling lots better today.

    • Hi Flynn…..I still have some bad days too – I guess this is just the way things will be for us my friend. Good days and “not so good” days. I don’t always eat much either and Mom worries about me. I will eat my treats though and they are nutritious (so says my vet) so between THAT and my yogurt I’m getting nourishment. But the ZIP is mostly gone – just once in a while now I act like I used to which makes my Mom and Dad SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy! We’ll just take the good with the bad right Flynn? At least we’re here and have parents who love us!

  14. Sammy my precious mentor and closest furriend…might we suggest that your Mom and Dad do the ‘hearing test’…meaning stand behind you and clap their hands very LOUD! IF you do not immediately turn, or duck or react..perhaps your hearing is not what it once was? Our Boris used to cry out in the night..all around the house, and Dad would go find him and bring him to bed. We have been learning now, that this behavior can be a sign of loss of hearing. Have your staff check with my staff if they want to know more, paw hugs, Nana

    Like

    • Hi Dear Nana……my vet, Dr. Rethman, said he thinks MAYBE I might have a bit of a hearing problem as well as a sight problem…..he thinks that’s why I don’t like going DOWN steps to the basement anymore (there are no lights on down there unless we’re down there)……….so Mom has put nightlights down there for me AND while I might act a bit like I don’t hear her – it’s funny how no matter where I am when she opens up a new package of treats, I come a running!!! HAHAHAHA You are sweet to worry about this old guy….!!!!

  15. Dood, seriously, I use steps and I don’t think it makes me less mancatly or *cough* OLD or anything. Since I don’t have an eardrum in one ear, I’m a bit off-balanced. So an assist to the warm bed (where the electric blankie’s on – SCORE!) is welcome. Maybe yanno, you’d like to try it again?
