Caturday

Hi All………….

Well, the first named hurricane of the season – “Andrea” – came up from the south and passed through the edge of southern Virginia yesterday but all we had in Northern Virginia was RAIN……RAIN…..and more RAIN.   There wasn’t even a heavy breeze – just the normal one.  I can only hope that all the other hurricanes that brew up on the Atlantic Coast this year are as mild as this one has been when it arrives here.  I was happy – Mom was happy – and Dad was happy that the sump pump worked properly in our basement.  😀 😀 😀 😀

Know what I did all day long to celebrate the rain?  Oh come on……..you guys ALL know me by now……..what did I do?????

We call this the Grandma Chair - Sam thinks it's a great nap spot.

My Grandma’s old chair with my other Grandma’s old quilt on it!

Uh huh…………that’s right…………….snoozing.   It occurs to me that SOME of you (my more recent followers for instance) might not know the significance of this particular photo.  You see this green chair is in our guest room (oops – I mean MY guest room) and it belonged to my Dad’s Mom (one of my Grannies)……and the quilt that I’m resting my rotund chubby plump bountiful  dear little self on is one that my OTHER Granny (my Mom’s Mom) received in 1947 as a wedding gift !    The chair is known as the “Granny-Granny” chair and it’s one of my favorite spots.

I was a hero yesterday – wanna hear why?   Well, when Mom got up at her usual 4:30AM and came downstairs I was waiting for her – RIGHT at the bottom of the stairs where I told her it was imperative that she follow me down to the basement BEFORE she even made coffee.  Yes  I did – I made it plain that she better follow me ASAP.   Of course Mom followed me because we have the same routine every morning – she comes down, we go into the kitchen, I watch her make coffee, she gives me my breakfast, we go down to the basement to clean my litter box, we go outside for a walk.

Not Friday morning.   I got her to follow me downstairs and I marched right over to the furnace where I showed her that there was a leaky pipe.  There was a puddle on the floor.  I discovered it Thursday night but being my dear sweet adorable self, I did NOT wake her up to tell her that at 1AM or 2AM or even 3AM – I waited for her to come downstairs Friday morning.  The puddle was getting bigger by the second – so Mom cleaned it up (with me standing by snoopervising of course) with some old towels, then put a bucket under the drip drip drip drip drip (you get the picture) and then we came upstairs for our USUAL start to the day.

Eventually Dad came downstairs and Mom told him the story of the puddle.  He said some stuff I didn’t QUITE catch (you know…some of those four letter words we’re not allowed to say) and went downstairs to take a peek.  Then he called the plumber and the rest – as they say – is history.  The pipe was clogged up with scale and the plumber dude cleaned it out and got us all fixed up just fine and dandy.

That means last night I didn’t have any puddle watch duties and this morning Mom and I started our day off like we’re SUPPOSED to……………….WITH BACON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So how’s YOUR Saturday going?????   Anybody else have to do puddle watch night before last????????

Happy Caturday !

  1. You are a clever fellow Sammy and very kind not to wake Mum up any earlier than she does herself! We’re due the rain and storms today and tomorrow but we can’t complain considering the dreadful flooding there has been in Northern Europe.

    • We’ve been following all the flooding…..Mom and Dad have been to many of the places we’ve seen film footage of with floods – Prague, Passau, etc. so very sad…..sometimes we feel like we’re most lucky to be on a hill here in our house because there are lots of streams around that flood other people out while we’re nice and dry up here! Glad you all are OK……..

    • Hi Sundae! Yes I did indeed sleep better last night – and I slept in the basement just to make sure that intruder from yesterday (Mr. Plumber) didn’t try to sneak back into my basement to make more noise! We hope to see some sun up here too…..but there will be bacon rain or shine!

  3. Lassie’s got nothing on you, Sammy! If I ever fell down a well, I’d want you there to rescue me! You’re a hero! Thankfully there were no puddles in my house, yesterday. But there were LOTS if them outside. It was a raincoat kind of day.

  4. And aren’t you glad the leaky pipe wasn’t over your litter pan/box….what a mess that would have been. Bet you would have waked your Mommy up in middle of the night for that!!

  5. Wow you are really a hero Sammy! What a white … ahmmm…. I mean ginger knight your are ! I’m glad you are a kitty – because the plumber-guys are afraid for dogs. Before our plumber-guy will enter my crib my dad has to lock me in the kitchen. There I make always loud and scary noises – then he works as fast as a lightning :o) I like the name of your chair – it’s nice when things have a special history like your “Granny-Granny”-chair. Have a lot of bacon and a fabulous caturday!

    • Hi Guys! Mom said she had no idea I was such a good “puddle reporter”….but if not for me letting her know we had a problem, who knows?!?! I might have needed a boat to get around in the basement!

    • Well I’m going to keep a CLOSE eye on everything down in the basement since I spend more time down there than anybody else around here. The minute we spring a leak, I’ll be all over it!!!!
