Big Bird

Standard

Oh I just bet I got every single cat’s attention with THAT blog title now didn’t I???  😀 😀

Well I’m not talking about Big Bird the TV star from Sesame Street – I’m talking about another big bird my Mom was talking about with my Dad today.  The big bird that is part of the Thanksgiving feast in many places including MINE.

My parents say that one of their most favorite meals is turkey with dressing “and all the trimmings”……..well that’s a bit confusing because they also say they “trim” the Christmas tree so what’s up with that?  We don’t hang decorations on our Thanksgiving turkey!  Anyway, this year my parents are spending Thanksgiving away from home.   Now you might think that means I won’t be smelling that yummy turkey cooking in the oven right?  WRONG…….

When my parents get home after Thanksgiving with relatives, my Mom is going to make a turkey breast for US.  That’s how much my crazy parents like turkey!  Well, also they know that I enjoy turkey too so I’m sure they’re also making it for ME ME ME!

We try to really think about all the things we’re thankful for at Thanksgiving……a lot of people are so focused on the FOOD they forget about the THANKS and even the GIVING.   My parents help stock up the shelter food bank so that everyone can have a good Thanksgiving dinner – that helps with the “giving”  part.   We have our health, our home, and each other and that’s the “thanks” part.

I’m also THANKFUL for all of you.  It’s great to have so many nice friends from all over the world.

Yes it’s a little bit early to talk about Thanksgiving but it’s never too early to be THANKFUL………now is it????

Hands (paws) across the world to all my friends!

p.s.  Thinking about some great stocking stuffers for your doggy buddies?  Think about Mollie’s Cat Treats – check out the homemade treats AND bandanas!  Cool idea!

  1. Wrote a whole comment and internet reception crashed as I posted it. Oh well, here we go again. Great you are getting your own specially cooked Turkey. We don’t have Thanksgiving here but I always remain thankful for my friends, family, love and this awesome new blogging community where I have got to meet fabulous friends such as yourself. Great idea for the “giving” part as well.

    • Uhoh LLCD – don’t tell me that GREMLIN is back! Sorry you’re having internet issues – that’s NOT FAIR. Anyway, I know I’m lucky that my parents love turkey too so even after having it ONCE away from home, they’ll come home and make another one! HAHA Thanksgiving is just one day set apart for giving thanks but I think you’re like WE are – – – thankful every single day for all that we have.

    • Hi Mollie! Yep – Turkey Day (oops – I mean Thanksgiving!) is the 22nd. You’re right – most of us are SOOOOOOOOO lucky to have what we do compared to SOOOOOOOOO many other people. We like to “share the love” (or whatever we have!!). How’s Alfie’s poor chewed up ear today? I worry about my wayward Alfie boy! 😀 😀 😀

    • Hi Cupcake! We saw your comment on Misaki’s blog just a few minutes ago…while I myself don’t really “get” the attraction of horse poop (or ANY poop for that maatter!!!) I know doggies love rolling around in it. I’d think that a pasture full of horses is like HEAVEN for you!! LOL Now we DO have goose poop just down the street from us because there’s a lake and the Canadian geese hang out there BUT my Mom and Dad avoid the poop like the plague when they go for a walk so I don’t even get a sniff!

Turkeys made of bacon????? Oh yah…..! I could like that a lot!!!

  4. How lucky are you that your parents love turkey so much they’re going to make one just for you! This is the time of year where Allegra and Ruby are not thrilled with their vegetarian Mom – but I always make sure I snag some leftovers for them from a friend’s plate on Thanksgiving… 🙂

    • Hi Ingrid! Well I’m sure Ruby and Allegra appreciate that you get a “kitty bag” full of goodies from your friend’s house for Thanksgiving – Sam enjoys a good chomp on a chicken or turkey from time to time. Hope everything is OK with you ladies and that you’re getting ready for the holidays – they’ll be here before ANY of us knows it!

  5. Please send me the left overs…. That’s a wonderful idea to help a shelter for a good Thanksgiving. They didn’t celebrate this day here… think I should lay claim on it, because I’m a half-american and should get at least a half turkey, or not?

    Like

    • Easy you totally should claim Thanksgiving on November 22nd! I think you should get an ENTIRE turkey. I am positive you could devour it quick as the blink of an eye too….I’ve seen how you can destroy pillows, sandals, chunks of wood so why not turkey?!?!?! Oh by the way, which half of you is American?? Front half or back half??? 😉

  6. We celebrated Thanksgiving way back in October and, because I’ve got a couple of veggies for peeps, there was no turkey! MOUSES! Do you think I could come over and visit you when your mom roasts that turkey breast? Would there be a little nibble for a pal like me? purrs

  7. Thankful every ding dang day! We are traveling to relatives for Thanksgiving too. How lucky you are Sammy that your Mom is making a second Thanksgiving dinner. Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. It’s hard to not be focused on the FOOD though. I can smell the turkey and taste the homemade noodles!!!

        • Probably not if it’s not something folks regularly eat there…..we don’t always get a WHOLE turkey either – sometimes just the turkey breast which is a lot more manageable for two adults and one hungry kitty cat!!

          • There you go! Even though you don’t have an actual “Thanksgiving” day set aside, you could bake a yummy turkey breast, make some stuffing for it, have mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole and cranberry sauce (oh and pumpkin pie for dessert) and you’d have a REAL LIVE USA THANKSGIVING FEAST! LOL Seriously though, my Mom will probably only buy the turkey breast for our feast. It’s plenty for us.

    • HA! We like both chicken and turkey in my house but my Mom makes this yummy stuffing for the turkey (although it probably would be as good jammed in a chicken!!). It’s funny but my Mom buys chickens all the time and just saves turkeys for Thanksgiving and sometimes also Christmas.

  9. I am hoping my human will cook a goose for the holidays. Her boyfriend will be out of town with gigs, but he is a pescatarian so it does not make a difference whether he is here or not.

  10. Sounds great that your humans are going to make a Turkey breast just for you 🙂
We don´t celebrate Thanks Giving in Sweden , but we guess that it is like Christmas that you forget all about why you are celebrating the holiday.
Never to early to give or to be thankful !

    • Hi Charlie……ANY day is a good day to have turkey right? It is like Christmas only no presents unless of course you consider TURKEY with all the trimmings to be a “present” (come to think of it, I guess it actually IS a real “gift”!!!!).

  11. Enjoy your turkey, Sammy. Our humans have never given us any people food, but we do steal french fries whenever we can. Maybe we will demand turkey this year. – Muffin, Noel, Constance Kitty, Nine, & Baby Stella (the cats of DogDaz)

    • Hi Everybody!! Thanks for coming by to say howdy-do. I think you all are officially turkey-deprived if you’ve never had a yummy slice of turkey but then french fries are a close second! You know, you are probably much healthier staying away from all the JUNK humans eat – but there’s something about turkey that I simply cannot resist every year when Mom makes it.

  12. Maxwell: we hear rumor that our humans may be out of town TOO. hrmpf. AWOL, we calls it! But we did hear that the *cooking* would be done in our hood, so we may be able to snag a few taste-test morsels before they pack it all up….we hope *sigh*

Allie: And you’re right – we have loads more than just food to be thankful for.

    FaRADaY: YEAH. WAND toys!

    • HA! See? We all do have quite a few things we should be thankful for even if our pawrents desert us for Thanksgiving…AND, sometimes they bring doggy kitty bags back home with yummies in them for us too. Wand toys (especially the feathery ones) are close to the top of my “thankful” list too though I have to admit……. 😀

    • Any celebration involving turkey is definitely worth celebrating! Perhaps if you are an extra good boy your Mom will get a turkey and make it “Remy Turkey Day” !! Now THAT would be something to be thankful for my friend! 😀 😀
