Labor Day – another excuse for Mom to put the flag banner on the front porch railing! HAPPY LABOR DAY…………….
Today is Labor Day……..all the humans who usually dread going back to work after the weekend have an extra day today to recover from their weekend of watching sports on TV and overeating household chores.
I don’t think there will be a lot of laboring going on at my house today. I know there wasn’t any laboring happening Saturday or Sunday either. In fact, since my parents retired, there’s not much laboring EVER. But they worked hard for years and years to be able to retire so they deserve not to have to labor. My parents labored hard enough in fact that they were able to retire before what used to be the “traditional” age of retirement here, which is 65. Their hard labor paid off.
Mom looked up Labor Day and what is REALLY is all about and this is what she found:
Observed on the first Monday in September, Labor Day pays tribute to the contributions and achievements of American workers. It was created by the labor movement in the late 19th century and became a federal holiday in 1894. Labor Day also symbolizes the end of summer for many Americans, and is celebrated with parties, parades and athletic events.
Well we’re not having any parties today (although the neighbors are planning a cookout if it doesn’t rain), and there will be a parade of deer through our yard but not because of the holiday, and as for athletic events, unless you count Mom carrying the laundry basket up and down the stairs a couple of times an athletic event – well – there won’t be any of those either!
So for Labor Day at my house, there will be no labor going on to speak of……….I certainly won’t be laboring – that’s for sure!
“Laboring” the day away with naps!

Hi Easy……it’s not traditional to give a gift for Labor Day but I still give MYSELF a gift – the gift of being a total and absolute BUM and sleeping most of the day away! 😀 I’ll pass that gift on to you buddy – feel free to lie in bed with the covers over your head and take it easy (recover from your birthday!!).

Sammy you are so funny! Won’t be any laboring going on here on the Tiny Ten either. We met family for a Chinese lunch yesterday and today I think we will toss some hot doggies, not real doggies(!!!!)and some Italian sausage on the grill and have a glass of wine. It is going to be HOT AGAIN here until Thursday so we will stay on our cool porch. Hmm, Chinese for lunch yesterday, Italian sausage for dinner. Guess we are having an international kind of food fest for our Labor Day.

Hi Miss Pix! Wow….sounds like you’re going to be EATING your way through the holiday weekend! We’ve got rain, rain and more rain here (which we do need), so no cooking out. It’s in the 80s for a change too which for us is “cool”. As for the glass of wine – Mom says rain or shine that’s always a good choice! 😀 😀 😀

Oh my – well there are a lot of people who DO work on all holidays here too but since most of the peeps around THIS neighborhood are government types they barely work even when there ISN’T a holiday much less ON a holiday (but don’t tell them I said that OK????).

Oh yeah…..I always found that rule about wearing white rather amusing….but I have to admit – if I TRY to wear white after Labor Day I can almost hear my Mom’s voice saying “uh uh uh….that’s a no-no!”……:D We usually have a BBQ for Labor Day BUT it’s raining here and has been for two days. 😦

Yes indeedy I did Misaki! I know you’re anxious to get back outside and have some walks and stuff but at least while you’re inside and can’t visit your friends in the park, you can curl up somewhere and catch up on snoozes!

Excellent! That’s exactly what we’re meant to do. I guess for humans Labor Day is a big deal because they get an extra day off from work BUT for those of us of the feline persuasion it’s just another day full of naps and leisure anyway! Kinda swell huh??? 😀 😀

My human spent most of Labor Day weekend, including today, at a vintage film festival in Hollywood. So I got most of the time off too!
