Gone Camping

Standard

TGIF!  Hi Peeps……thanks to everyone who commented on my blog yesterday that they liked my “illuminating” story about humans adopting animals and how I came to live with my OWN personal human entourage!   🙂

Thursday was an incredibly HOT day – again.  We’re certainly on a roll with hideously hot temperatures and because of that I’m on strike – I won’t go back outside again until we get below 100 for a high temperature!  I TRIED to go outside this morning on the shady front porch but honestly it was just too HOT.  Sticky hot.  Yucky hot.  Fry-your-pink-toesies-on-the-porch hot.  I’ve spent a majority of the day in my afghan tent which I politely asked Mom to make for me in her studio after my frustrating attempt to get some fresh air this morning………..I don’t look TOO miserable – do I ???

Fooled ya Ma! Turned away from the nosy old camera at the last second! Tee Hee!

This afghan tent thing is getting to be a daily habit of mine.  Mom insists on “un-making” my tent every evening on her way to bed.  You’d think she’d figure out that I will be using it EVERY DAY wouldn’t you?  I pretend like I’m camping out – which I understand involves a tent and “getting away from it all” which humans usually do in a campground or park or something but I prefer to do in a nice, cool, air-conditioned house!  I’m still camping OUT – only I’m IN – right?  😀

You might remember this other tent of mine – I still have it but really I prefer being up in Mom’s studio in my afghan tent.

Hey...this thing isn't just good for camping - it's good for HIDING toys too!

My “other” tent…..this was one of the first toys I had when I came to live here….so it was before I discovered the joys of afghan tent camping!

Now if I can just train Mom to bring me some treats from time to time, and maybe put an extra litter box up here in her studio so I don’t have to go ALLL the way down two floors to the basement to use “the facilities” ……I’d have it made……the ultimate camping trip.  😉

How are you  keeping cool if it’s super hot where you are like it is here?  Have you ever gone camping indoors like I do?????

  1. I think you are really smart to camp inside! We were walking outside at Quantico yesterday and it was HOT! Today, I think we are staying inside! Try to stay cool, and enjoy your afghan tent – providing your Mom puts it up for you.

    • Hi Miss Linda! Thanks for visiting me….Mom and I feel so bad because we can so rarely comment on YOUR beautiful blog – this dial-up thing is not fun sometimes – it just takes so long for your pretty pictures to load up because they are so large. Darn Darn Double Darn….:D It’s gonna be another hottie today so you stay inside and give yourself a break! Mommy puts my tent up for me any time I ask her to so no doubt I’ll be tucked under it again today – indoors camping is the only way to go!! 😉

  2. Ah, Sammy: love your idea of “roughing it”!! But your mom shouldn’t expect you to have to go down two flights of steps to use the facilities! That’s just plain inconvenient.
Have fun in your afghan tent today – and stay cool!

    • Hi sundae…..I agree with you about the facilities…..perhaps a portable outhouse is in order???? 😀 😀 😀 Stay cool – I’m gonna be doing just that myself. This heat is ICKY!

  3. Sammy yes what is with your Mommy that she doesn’t just leave the tent made since you are in it every day? I guess she wants it to be fresh for you each time! Ugh this heat!! My Mom hasn’t stepped outside since Monday!!!! We have had ENOUGH! Stay cool Sammy! xoxoxoxoxo

    • Hi Cody and Miss Caren…..I know what you mean – seems silly for her to undo my tent every night…..but maybe it’s because it’s on HER studio couch in HER studio and she doesn’t like the so-called MESS????? Well, as long as when I come into the studio and give her “THE LOOK” or that pitiful little squeaky meow that means “TENT” she makes the tent for me (which she does) I’m OK with her dismantling it at night. After all, you’re not supposed to bite the hand that feeds you (or in this case, bite the hand that puts your tents up!!):D

    • Well I’ve gotta say – it sure is COMFY camping IN. I stuck my nose outside long enough to feel the heat – ducked back inside and headed for my tent. Stay cool Texas!

  4. You sure look like a ‘happy camper’, Sammy! Guess your outhouse would be like an ‘in-house’ outhouse …. sort of like you camping out while IN!! Stay cool.

    • Hi Miss June! You’re right – my outhouse IS an inhouse! It makes my current camping experience so much more comfortable than if I was out in this heat. Got my tent, got my food, got my “inhouse”, got toys, got my parents, got my PEACE AND QUIET. Yep – I’m spoiled alright! 😀

  6. It is too hot here to go outside, too, Sammy! You are very fortunate that you have an indoor bathroom. My dogs have to use the doggie doors to go outside. They’ve decided to leave the coolness of the house only between the hours of midnight and 8 am. The rest of the time, it’s just too darned hot!

    • Hi Miss Trish! Your doggies are no dummies! That’s smart that they figured out the only cool time to be outside is during the dark hours. It really is too hot to be outside otherwise – but next week will be better – at least here. They say we’ll be in the 80s which is a whole lot better than the 100s! Hope it’s better down in North Carolina too! 😀 😀

  8. You’re looking good in that tent Sammy!! Zero says to tell you that he hides in the very back of a dark, dark closet….hang in there..it’s supposed to get cooler next week.

    • Dark closets are GOOD spots….it’s cool, it’s cozy, it’s private and it’s DARK! All makings for FINE napping!! Zero is a smarty. We are supposed to get temps in the 80s next week here too – let’s ALL hope the weatherdudes aren’t lying….AGAIN. 😦

  9. Doggy camps under the coffee table which also works as his watchtower. You keep cool, your paws are too precious to get them burn outside.

    • There’s something about a “closed in” space like a coffee table, box, corner or tent that just feels good to us I think. I’m glad Doggy has “his” spot too! I haven’t been out to fry my toesies today and like I said, I’m not going out until it cools down a bit!!! Next week it’s supposed to be in the high 80s….FINALLY.

    • Now Savannah, you need to get off the computer right this minute and go tell your Mom or your Dad to make you a nice afghan tent (don’t forget to be extra cute when you ask). I’m sure you will love it because you already love your afghans so a tent would just be EXTRA wonderful!

  10. That’s a bummer you have to deal with this extended heat wave, Sammy! At least you have a way to get away from it – I worry about all the outdoor and feral kitties who are not so fortunate.

    Like

    • I worry about them too Sparkle…..I really do. Imagine being stuck out in 100+ temperatures day after day trying to find water or food. Not good. Makes those of us who don’t have to deal with that feel EXTRA lucky doesn’t it?

    • Oh Alfie I think an umbrella is a great idea….in fact, once in a while when I insist on going outside in the rain and Mom carries an umbrella with her, when we get back inside and she puts the umbrella on the floor to dry out I like to lick the raindrops off it! YUM – fresh rain tastes delish!
