Jeepers……I told you we were supposed to have a hot day but who knew it would be hotter than hot? Friday it was way over 100 degrees and even in the shade it was unbearable. I did just what I said I was gonna do – stayed inside and dreamed of cooler weather:
Late in the afternoon my Dad went down to the mailbox to get the mail and when he got back up the driveway he sat down on the front porch to read the newspaper. He saw me at the door looking out and opened it to see if I wanted to come out on the porch. All it took was about five seconds for that heat to hit me and I said “Thanks but no thanks Pop!” and headed back into the living room and my tissue collection.
I feel really sorry for the animals who don’t have shelter in this kind of heat and I don’t just mean around here – EVERYWHERE! I also know lots of my friends and their humans don’t have air-conditioning and when it’s over 100 degrees, it’s hard to imagine NOT having it. Our feral visitor “Stevie” stayed cool yesterday – she spent time in the shade lying on the cool grass….and Mom filled up her water bowl on the front porch twice – she even put an ice cube in it to keep the water cold!
I guess Mom will be heading out in the backyard any minute now to get the gardens watered before it starts heating up for the day. I’m also sure she will offer to let me follow her out – because she usually does and I watch her water all the plants and the deck boxes then coil the hose back up (my favorite part…watching the hose!) and finally come back inside. But this morning, I’m gonna PASS on going out with her. I’ll watch her from inside the basement where it’s nice and cool. See? It’s even too hot for me to be COMPANIONABLE these past few days! I hope it cools off soon…….I do like gardening with Mom in the mornings…………. 😦
Hope you have a COOL Saturday….either inside or out! 😀

We are doing everything early in the morning, then staying in all afternoon and out of this heat! Yesterday, we watched 2 movies just trying to stay still and cool! Hope you have a cool day, Sammy!

Hi Miss Linda….it’s best to just stay inside when it’s THIS hot. Hope you didn’t get any storm damage from the super bad storm. It didn’t even cool things down! That wasn’t fair! 😀 Mommy has had a hard time commenting on your blog lately though – she wanted you to know that she reads it every single day but sometimes because we have dial-up all the photos won’t load and we can’t comment! NO FAIR! But we love your bloggie – and always enjoy the beautiful pictures.

Good morning, Sammy. We are SUCH fortunate kitties, aren’t we? When it’s really hot (or really cold, or stormy, or snowy), Motor Mommy always reminds me that I have a pretty good life.
I’m glad Stevie stayed cool too. That was sweet of your Mom to put ice cubes in her water!
Have a good Saturday –

Hi Sundae……yep we are lucky compared to lots of our fellow animals. Last night’s bad storm reminded me how glad I am to have a nice safe place to take shelter! I hope you have a nice Saturday too there on your window perch watching the water and the boats.

We cooled off a bit yesterday. Only 104. Down from Thursday’s high of 106. 102 for today but I betcha it gets hotter. And we have to run errands today for The Mama’s birthday tomorrow. Any bets on whether the ice cream cake makes it? Stay cool Sammy! I am about to buy myself some tissue papers just to soothe my nerves.

Hi Pix! EEKS….we think anything over 100 is just “too icky for words” ! I hope that The Mama’s birthday party is INSIDE and not OUTSIDE. Gee, ice cream cake sounds swell but good luck keeping it in cake form vs. milkshake form (hahaha).

I like to go out in the morning for a little while, and then go back inside, not to far from the air conditioning thing. Love it!
Have a great Saturday, Sammy!

What on earth would we do without air-conditioning! I know lots of people don’t have it and never have but when it’s well over 100 degrees day after day, it’s hard to imagine NOT having it….that’s for sure.

We’ve worried about some outdoor animals around here also. We’ve been getting up at dawn so we can spend some time outdoors before it gets too hot.

It’s the only way to get a breath of fresh air – EARLY in the morning! We’ve been making sure there’s lots of available water in our birdbaths – between the deer, squirrels, skunks, possums, birds, CATS (!) – this seems to be the local hangout to get a drink!!

I’m so glad we don’t have it as hot as you guys today! It’s only going to be about 80-ish here, and that is warm enough – I don’t know why the weather beings think it needs to get any hotter than that!

I agree Sparkle………80s would be nice and I’d kind of like it if it were that way year-round! We’re going to be below 100 most of this week though so I suppose that’s a bit of a break. Today’s high is to be 98. Some “break” huh??? 😀 😀

Sammy you have been having the “hots’ for sure. Upper 90s here in Michigan. Mom says she would actually rather have SNOW (yep she said it) than these hot temps. Poor Stevie, it is nice that your Mom looks out for her though. Also, with your “park-like” yard i am sure Stevie has some secret shady spot that no one knows about! Stay cool Sammy! Love, Cody

Hi Cody! Gosh – 90 sounds cool (!!). My Mom has mentioned the word “snow” a few times too these last few days. She promised never to complain about it again. (uh huh – sure!) Stevie visits us every single day but she also visits some other houses – she seems to like the life of a little vagabond AND gets a nice variety of food and attention as she makes her rounds! 😀 I think my front porch is her FAVORITE spot though……

Summer has arrived here, too. The peep said it was 32C when she went out this afternoon. I’ve spent most of the day looking for shady spots. My aunties have plunked themselves down right in front of the fan. No space left for me there. It’s okay though ’cause I found a really good shady spot and it’s ALL MINE! purrs

Oh good for you Nerissa! You go right ahead and take the best spot – after all, we have to look out for ourselves FIRST! It was 105 here Friday then yesterday it was “only” (!) 102. We thought the bad storm that blew through here would cool things down but NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. I’m staying inside and keeping cool……….

Hi Savannah….indeed it’s been unsafe for humans and animals around here for days and days. Then Friday night we had a horrible storm on top of all of that! Over a million people with no power – we were lucky. Anyway, I’m staying inside and nice and cool and we’re keeping an eye on Stevie too. She won’t come inside but she sleeps on our shady front porch and then off she goes to wander around the neighborhood. I do worry about her though!

Our Mummy ‘borrowed’ a washing up bowl and filled it with water to put out for the bird because they were squabbling over another bird bath trying to cool off! Stay safe and cool.

Hi, Sammy. So glad you stayed cool today. It’s so thoughtful of you to think of all of the other animals out there. With July 4th just around the corner, I worry, too, for the animals outside (well, and inside, too!) when there are fireworks: they just don’t understand what’s happening, and I can only imagine how frightened they must be. The fireworks have already started around here, and are sure to continue over the next many days.

Hi Miss Melanie…..I HATE fireworks. The noise is just too scary. Lots of our neighbors do fireworks in their yards – and all night long we can hear them going off all around. Humans sure have some funny and NOISY traditions! 😀 So far we haven’t heard any fireworks but on the 4th we sure will and you know where I’ll be – my basement hidey hole!

Happy Sunday Sammy:) Geez that is super duper meowy hot!!! Our summer here has not hit over 85 degrees…so even though we have a nice air conditioner Mom has not had it on and the best part is that she has the windows open so I can smell the air and hear the birds better:) I have to giggle when I see you in the snow….you look cute!!! Sending you cool weather asap!

We’re at 100 here today even though they promised us cooler temperatures – of course it IS cooler than the 104 from yesterday…. 😦 I’m enjoying a nap in my afghan tent this afternoon. Still resting up from all the excitement of the storm we had. Who can sleep when you’re thinking any minute you’re going to blow away in the wind?!?!?!
