Tuesday Teaser

Standard

Hi Teaser Fans!  This week’s Teaser is a little bit different from the others…….instead of a photograph from a vacation trip, it’s an oil painting my Mother did of a lighthouse.    She painted it ages before she actually got to see it in person though.  She was taking painting classes about 30 years ago and painted it during class from a tiny little picture in an art magazine that was in the classroom on a shelf!   It’s a very well known painting, done in 1929 by a famous artist – one of my Mom’s favorites as it turned out.   Does it look familiar?

My Mom did a great job with it (even if I do say so myself :D).  It originally hung over the fireplace in the house she lived in when she married my Dad a million years ago  in 1990, and now it hangs outside our living room in this house.

On a vacation many years ago they made a point of visiting it IN PERSON and sure enough, both the famous artist and my Mom captured it perfectly.

So – what is the name of this lighthouse and where is it located?

Almost as swell as the original !

I have to say that this may be my EASIEST Teaser ever so I’m fairly certain I’ll be handing out a whole lot of BIG SAMMY HUGS to the winners who know the name of this lighthouse and where it is.

Guesses anyone?

Happy Tuesday Teaser…………

Sammy

    • Hi Sundae…..I told Mom that you think she’s talented and she got a big fat smile on her face. That’s a GOOD THING. 😀 Anyway, if it looked familiar to your Mom, maybe she’ll remember something before the day is over! You never know!

  4. I think she was incredibly talented, also. This is truly a gorgeous piece of art! But I have no idea where it might be. There are a lot of lighthouses along the coastline of North Carolina (where I live) but it doesn’t look familiar. Can’t wait to find out where it is!

  6. Could it be somewhere in Maine? To be honest, it looks like places here in Nova Scotia but for my guess (and you KNOW guessing is all I can do with these teasers), I’m choosing Maine.

  7. Sparta is right! I googled it too hehehe…it is the The Lighthouse at Two Lights
Edward Hopper (American, Nyack, New York 1882–1967 New York City), In “The Lighthouse at Two Lights” Hopper isolated the dramatic silhouette of the 120-foot-high lighthouse tower and adjoining Coast Guard station against the open expanse of blue sky. Set on a rocky promontory in Cape Elizabeth, Maine —

I have to tell you that your painting is a dead-ringer!!! Fantastic. Oh and you can’t give us a year, and tell us it is a famous artist in this day and age!! We’re all over Google!!!! lol

    • Hi Miss Caren…….oh you Googlers peeked! Well, can’t blame you – I gave you too many hints! 😀 I think my Mom did a great job too – especially since she hadn’t been painting very long at that point. Hugs will be handed out tomorrow though!

    • Hi D…..Sam said it was OK for me to “hog the blog” and respond to your comment because I wanted to thank you for the compliment on the painting! I can’t believe I painted it over 30 years ago but I did. It’s only 11″x14″ in size – I wish I’d painted it HUGE but I wasn’t confident enough at the time to stare at a big canvas that needed to be painted. LOL

Thanks a bunch………..Sam says he’ll let you know tomorrow what lighthouse it is!

I’ll spill the details tomorrow – some folks already googled based on my “hints” and discovered the truth about the painting. I’ll have to be more CAREFUL in the future!

  9. That IS an awesome painting! My human used to paint in high school, but I don’t think she ever visited anything she painted a photo of… her favorite is a doorway in Germany.

BTW, I had no idea where this was – my human has never been there, either!

    • Hi Sparkle…..some of my Mom’s paintings were done from photos she took while on a vacation but she said she loved this painting so much when she copied it she made her mind up right then that one day she’d see it in person. She did too – it just took a LONG time to get there! I’ll tell the details tomorrow.
