The Painting Project

39

Good Morning Friends!  It’s Thursday and today my parents are taking on a big project which I’ll have lots of fun watching……well, assuming all goes well, it will be fun to watch.  If my Dad gets upset and starts saying funny words that I don’t understand 😉 then it might not be QUITE as fun.

What’s going on?  Well, Dad’s going to repaint our front door.  Sounds simple huh?   NOTHING is simple around here – trust me.

Sam enjoying the front porch on a pretty fall day
Just a dark green door with some brass doodads on it – no biggie – right?

Dad will take all the brass stuff off (we’re getting all NEW brass stuff but not for a while so the OLD brass stuff will go back on after the paint is dry).

Then he’ll tape a big piece of plastic over the door opening – that’s the FUN part for me – I can see out onto the porch (where no doubt the neighborhood pest cat Stevie will be hanging out) but SHE can’t get to ME and I can’t get to HER.  We’ll just make faces at each other while Dad’s working.

Then he’ll paint the whole door – same color but it will be nice and shiny and pretty after he’s done.

Then we have to WAIT FOR IT TO DRY – with some luck it will dry quickly – fortunately we should have a nice sunny day and not the humid, icky, WET-ish kind of day we had for the last several days so drying shouldn’t be a problem.

The plastic will come off – the old brass will go on – the door will close up and Stevie and I will go our separate ways!  Voila!  Finis!

Remember I said at the beginning “my parents” would be doing this project?  I didn’t mention a thing about what Mom will be doing did I?  Her job (and it’s a tough one) is to keep Dad calm.  Encourage him at every brush stroke.  Compliment him on his painting technique.  Bring him ice tea when he’s thirsty and Advil when his headache starts.  It’s a very important part of the project.

I’ll just sit there and try not to giggle.

So you people are telling me that when we open this door, the outside will be nice and green and shiny?????

I have a feeling this is going to be a VERY LONG DAY……

Happy Thursday to all my buddies all over the world!

Lots of Teaser Winners!

28

Happy Wednesday everybody………..I might have known that SOME of you were going to be smarty pants and Google to find out WHERE that lighthouse is from yesterday’s Teaser!  I’m going to have to give fewer (or worse?) hints from now on because you are too smart for me………..!   But some of you just plain guessed right too with no Googling involved.

So, YES many of you were absolutely right that it was the Lighthouse at Two Lights located at Cape Elizabeth Light Station in Cape Elizabeth, Maine!  If you’re curious about it, just click HERE

The painting Mom copied was by one of her favorite artists, Edward Hopper.   If you’d like to know more about Hopper’s painting and see the “original” click HERE.

So many of you got it right or parts of it right (like that it was in New England, etc.) and I’m glad it got you thinking or searching or even just scratching your heads (or your humans heads) to think where you’d seen it before!  And many of you were right on the money!

Here’s a list of folks who were good guessers!

Sparta’s World

CatFromHell

Cat Chat

Texas, A Cat In New York

The Road Awaits Me

Nerissa The Cats Life

Doggy’s Style

Hutch A Good Life

And my good friend Miss June who doesn’t have a blog but is a very loyal reader of One Spoiled Cat!

Next Tuesday I promise you won’t have it so easy everybody…..tee hee.  Here’s a last look at my Mom’s painting which, by the way, she titled “Homage to Hopper” :

Almost as swell as the original !

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST……….THIS IS FOR ALL YOU WINNERS!

}}}}BIG SAMMY HUG!{{{{

P.S.   My friend Miss D said she thought Mom should maybe put her paintings on notecards for sale?  Well, all Mom’s paintings and photos and drawings are available for notecards – just visit my Mommy’s website HERE and click on “Affordable Art” and you’ll see all of them!

Tuesday Teaser

38

Hi Teaser Fans!  This week’s Teaser is a little bit different from the others…….instead of a photograph from a vacation trip, it’s an oil painting my Mother did of a lighthouse.    She painted it ages before she actually got to see it in person though.  She was taking painting classes about 30 years ago and painted it during class from a tiny little picture in an art magazine that was in the classroom on a shelf!   It’s a very well known painting, done in 1929 by a famous artist – one of my Mom’s favorites as it turned out.   Does it look familiar?

My Mom did a great job with it (even if I do say so myself :D).  It originally hung over the fireplace in the house she lived in when she married my Dad a million years ago  in 1990, and now it hangs outside our living room in this house.

On a vacation many years ago they made a point of visiting it IN PERSON and sure enough, both the famous artist and my Mom captured it perfectly.

So – what is the name of this lighthouse and where is it located?

Almost as swell as the original !

I have to say that this may be my EASIEST Teaser ever so I’m fairly certain I’ll be handing out a whole lot of BIG SAMMY HUGS to the winners who know the name of this lighthouse and where it is.

Guesses anyone?

Happy Tuesday Teaser…………

Memorial Day Activity

39

So yesterday was another hot and sunny day….lots of holiday activities going on around our neighborhood.  There was a big soccer game over at the elementary school, there were cookouts all over the place (ahhhh the smell of charcoal wafting through the air), and the little neighbor boys next door enjoyed their kiddie pool by having a contest to see who could splash the most water OUT of it when they jumped into it!

I’m not sure how many of you have seen this photo I posted on my blog last year of my Cousin Toby (who lives in West Virginia with my Aunt Carol) in his back yard pool.  Toby loves the pool AND the water hose equally well:

Cousin Toby is a Shih Tzu and he loves playing in the water!

I think he thinks it’s a great big water dish.

A small herd of deer came out of the woods this afternoon and ate some stuff from Mom’s garden – or – as she calls it – the “All You Can Eat Salad Bar”………

Deer helping themselves to sunflower seeds in the birdfeeders

So it really was an eventful day………..I didn’t do much except go out on the front porch with Mom a couple of times until I got too hot…..and watched her put some more Memorial Day patriotic decorations up – a big red/white & blue bow on our porch railing where the shiny banner is AND a red/white & blue windsock hanging from a tree branch in the front yard.  Turned out the deer who were munching in the backyard walked around to the FRONT yard after they ate and stopped in their tracks when they saw the windsock blowing around with its’ long streamers!  They had no idea what it was……their eyesight isn’t all that great……they stared for a minute then turned around and ran back into the backyard and disappeared in the woods!   Silly deer!

I told Mom she should hang some windsocks around her gardens so maybe the deer would go to someone else’s “All You Can Eat Salad Bar” for their meals from now on……..I’m so full of GREAT ideas aren’t I ?Happy Monday Peeps!Sammy

Super Sunny Samturday!

32

Oh joy!  Yesterday was full of sun and fun for MOST of the day………I broke out my visor (which doesn’t really protect me much from the sun – the top of my noggin is exposed but I just look so way cool!):

Blurry but you get the drift...Sam's not thrilled with his new hat!

Cool Dude…..

Sam in his visor and sunglasses!

Now if it actually FIT – looks more like a duck bill than a hat!

And of course the yard was calling to me…..when it does, I simply canot ignore it (unless of course the neighborhood moocher Stevie is hanging out in our yard)!

Sam outside in front yardSun and grass – GREAT combo! The only fly in the ointment (if you’ll pardon the expression) was my Dad.  He decided that today was the day he was going to use his NOISY (did I say NOISY???) circular saw out in the back yard to cut the landscaping ties he bought to size for the trail down into the woods.  Oh great.  That’s nice and quiet………………..NOT!

Well, I guess this long weekend is for people to do whatever they want to do……..he wants to saw wood………I want to have fun……….and never the twain shall meet (apparently).

I’m thinking I’ll just curl up on Mom’s lap and take one of my world famous naps.  I’ll be asleep in about ten seconds as usual so I won’t hear the noise……..I’ll be in dreamy land…….thinking about a nice quiet beach…….maybe in Hawaii……….Pedro – dude – feel like having company????????????????

Sam Sleeping (again)

Ahhh….Hawaii….I can just see myself on a RED surfboard!

Happy Sunday………Sammy
