Early Morning Walk With Mom

Standard

Happy Friday!  Well, I won’t have a picture to show you of what my blog is about today because my walk with Mom was IN THE DARK!

Yep – we haven’t done this in a long time but I decided to ask yesterday morning if she would pretty please put my harness on and take me outside while it was still dark and Dad was still snoring sleeping.

I don’t often ask anymore because we have that cat that visits us fairly regularly named “Stevie” who sometimes is outside in the mornings and she and I don’t exactly get along well.  She probably just wants to play with me but sometimes she jumps on me and it scares me SOOOOOOOO if I see her out there, I don’t ask to go.  Well this morning she was NOT out there!

I went to the basement door and gave Mom “THE LOOK” after she’d finished cleaning my litter box for me.  She keeps my harness and leash right by the door and I help her to put it on me – I lift my paws up one at a time so she can put the harness on and snap on the leash…..Oh I just get SO excited!  The door opens, she turns on the light so we can see, and out we go into the dark……..

I had a bit of a nibble on the grass – even though Mom mowed a couple of days ago there’s always a few spots (and of course I know where they are!) where she can’t get the mower so that’s where I go for a munch.

Then we slowly started around the side of the house…..I guess I wasn’t moving fast enough for her (well, it was starting to rain a little bit and I wasn’t in a hurry) so she picked me up in her arms and we kept walking.   She talked to me the whole time and I purred and purred back……it was nice for her to hold me and keep me nice and warm because it was a little bit coolish!  We didn’t see any other animals but the birds were just starting to wake up and make some noise in the big leyland cypress trees.

Finally we got to the back yard and I started to squirm a bit in Mom’s arms because I wanted her to put me down…….why?  Well because it’s a big game we play as to who can get to the basement door the fastest!!!

She put me down and let go of my leash and WHAMMO – fast as a cheetah I ran to the door and beat her!  YAY SAMMY!

I may be old but I’m still fast………….when I wanna be!

Happy Friday……..

  1. Oh, Sammy, that’s so sweet that your Mom picked you up and held you close to keep you warm and safe and dry. Our Moms DO take really good care of us, don’t they?

  2. Sammy this was such a sweet post. I hope the boy in you isn’t embarrassed by that. It made me teary but tell your Mom teary in a good way. You are one of the lucky cats Sammy but I know you know that. I can see your Mom scooping you up and I can hear you motoring away in her arms. Does your Mom ever worry that after you munch some grass you will find the most expensive and hardest to clean rug and hoark up a hairball? 😀

    • Hi Pix! LOL…not only does my Mom think I’ll hoark up that hairball but I’ve done that MANY times on her oriental carpet. She kind of likes me to hoark there though because the rug pattern is very “busy” and colorful so you can’t really tell I’ve hoarked long after it’s been cleaned. I’m glad my post about me and my Mom made you smile. Mom and I are pretty darn close; not that I don’t love my Dad, but there’s something about a guy and his Mom – ya know? I’ll always be her baby and she’ll always be my bestest friend.

  3. I completely understand your munching on the fresh grass. My girl, BJ, likes it a lot but I have to bring it in for her because she doesn’t go outside even for an early morning walk. Kitty babies deserve treats!

    • Hi Miss June! I’m so happy you go to all the trouble of going outside and bringing in some fresh grass for BJ – that’s a very sweet thing to do for her. Once in a great while my Mom does that – like if it’s snowed a whole lot and I couldn’t find a blade if I wanted to out there….Mom will dig through it and find a bit of greenery for me. Moms are SPECIAL PEOPLE!!!! 😉

  4. Sammy, it sounds like you had the most amazing and exciting adventure outdoors this morning. I just loved how you and your mom talked to each other while you took your stroll. What fun that must have been. Wish I could have been there with you. Yes, it sounded like THAT much fun!

    • Awwww……..well, my Mom and I have done that early morning “just the two of us” thing all these years and it’s just a grand way to start my day. Mom and I look up in the sky at the stars and moon if it’s visible…..also there’s no traffic yet so it’s super quiet. Early morning is my FAVORITE time.

    • Hi Pluma! Well, I think you’d like the dark mornings – it’s interesting out there and since you have a harness, your Mom could make sure you’re nice and safe out there too. Let me know if you can talk her into it – I have a feeling SHE’d enjoy it as much as YOU would!! 😀

  7. oohhh how cool is that! Ya get’ta go outside in the dark where you can practice using your nocturnal skills and then, even better…ya don’t even have to use your legs or get your paws dirty…nice training of your staff Sammy! Have a catastic weekend, Savannah sending paw waves

    • Hi Savannah! Yeah, the harness thing was something Mom started me on when I was a tiny guy and it let me enjoy the great outdoors SAFELY. Anyway, if I’m moving too slowly or Mom thinks I’m eating a bit TOO much grass, she scoops me up and carries me around – I quite like that – it’s like having a private limo service….HAHAHAHA Mom carrying me and talking to me while I purr – I think it makes us BOTH feel good. Paw waves right back atcha!!

  8. That sounds like so much fun! I would probably squirm out of a harness at the first unexpected noise, so I don’t get to go outside.

    • Hi Sparkle…some of the harnesses for cats WOULD be easy to squirm out of. Mom didn’t like the stretchy ones she found so she bought me a tiny little puppy harness when I was a little guy that fit me – no way could I get out of it….then I graduated to a BIG BOY one which I STILL can’t wiggle out of! I’m a ‘fraidy cat but somehow the harness and knowing Mom’s at the end of that leash seem to make me feel safe enough that I can enjoy being outside. WOO HOO!!!!!

    • Well ya know what Baby? It’s a whole lot safer to go out during the day I’m sure and I MOSTLY go out in the daylight……but the dark is a whole other world and it’s sort of neat……and very quiet……..and it’s just one of those fun things I share with my Mom!!

    • Hi Nellie! I know you’ve been a very sick little girl BUT hopefully you continue to improve. I read on your blog about a big old PARTY you and Kozmo are going to in Hollywood so I assume that means you’re feeling good enough to “boogie the night away”…….you just be careful on your trip now OK?
