To Bee, or Not To Bee…..

I Can See That Fat Squirrel Hanging From The Squirrel-Proof Birdfeeder! HA!

Hey Mom...do you see where that bee landed on my nose yesterday??

Happy Sunday Folks….so here’s my latest saga.  It’s totally BEElievable!  I was out on the front porch with Mom while it was lightly raining yesterday afternoon.  Mom was in her rocker and BEEautiful me was sitting on the top step to the porch just out of reach of the raindrops.  I had my eye on a big old bumble bee that was “visiting” Mom’s potted plants on the porch.  I have a healthy respect for bees…..when I was younger I thought they were fair game for a swat-fest like other flying insects – I’m always up for a game of “you buzz around me and I’ll try to smack you down” but I learned bees shouldn’t be messed with.

Anyway, I watched it and watched it and it even buzzed around Mom briefly before landing on an azalea bush (maybe having a drink of water) then it made a BEEline for yours truly!  Quick as can BEE and BEEfore I could react – it landed on my nose!   I just sat there…..I didn’t know what to do……neither did Mom……I just told myself “BEE still Sam” and sure enough off it flew – in fact it flew away from the porch and out into the yard FAR away from us.

I don’t think bumble bees are as MEAN as some of the other stingy things that come around the flowers and stuff on the porch and yard……..we get hornets and wasps and all kinds of critters that are downright MEAN.   I think Mr. Bumble yesterday was just curious about the furry red and white striped creature watching him from the porch and decided to check me out “up close and personal”……

Maybe now I have a new friend.  Somehow I think I’d rather have a chipmunk as a new friend rather than an unpredictible BEE!

Farewell Mr. Bumble…….please find yourself another “landing strip” to park on instead of my nose!

  1. That is funny, Sammy. Remind me of what happened to me about two weeks ago. I was outside laying ball with Zoe and the ball landed in the side of the garage that has more or less been turned into a dump site. As I was looking around for the ball I put my hand on something to steady myself for bending down and looking for the darn ball. Well, whatever it was that I put my hand on was already occupied by a wasp and I suddenly began to think I had been electrocuted. It stung me on my pinkie finger and it hurt! My finger is still tender and that was two weeks ago.

So, heah, I’d prefer a friend that didn’t have a stinger in its tail if I had a choice in the matter.

  2. Same here! No more bees for me. Although with Mr. Bumble, I didn’t exactly ASK for a visit – he just decided he wanted to meet me I guess. I’m irresistible – what can I say?? Hope your wasp sting feels better soon……..they HURT (so says Mom and Dad who’ve both felt the wrath of wasp).

    • Hi Miss Caren and Cody! Yeah, I think maybe that bee just hadn’t seen a red tabby polydactyl cat before and had to TOUCH me to make sure I wasn’t a mirage! HAHAHAHA Well, I guess he knows now……anyway, I have a healthy respect for most insects – although there’s nothing more fun than poking a big old beetle along on the lawn….:)

    • Hey! Not a bad idea Miss Trish! Actually (but don’t tell Mom I told you) she’s hoping her kids book is a big hit because she’s already thinking about a sequel – more animal fables only this time with a feral cat like ME “in charge” of the magic forest instead of a forest fairy. Who knows?!?!?! Say hi to your gang for me will you? Hope Mattie, Eddie and Simone AND their Mom, all have a super Labor Day weekend.

  3. WHEW, Sammy! That was a close one! I’m glad you stayed still so that bumble bee would leave without stinging you. Be careful – I wouldn’t want you to write a post about getting stung!
