Early Morning Stroll With Mom

Hi everybody!  It’s a pretty morning here…..Mom and I just were in the back yard and she took this picture so I thought I’d share (although I’m not in it so it’s not as CUTE as it would be if I was!!):

Sam's backyard

Mom didn't get me in this picture - I was sitting at her feet!

It’s a pretty sunny morning here – Mom and I figured we’d enjoy nice weather while we can since Hurricane Irene is visiting us this weekend.  Gotta move yard furniture inside, make sure the birdfeeders are safe from the wind and make sure nothing else is “loose” out there so it won’t fly around and break something!

In our little local newspaper this week there was a photo of a small black bear – guess where the picture was taken?  Just one street over from us!!   We have had them roaming around here before but it’s been a while – I think lots of animals are looking for food this summer since it’s been so dry.  Not much greenery to munch on.  The creek down in our woods has even dried up.  We are seeing LOTS more deer up in our yard looking for anything they can eat.  I bet that bear was hoping to find some tasty vegetable garden treats!  We used to have a vegetable garden in our backyard.  Now that the trees are so big, we don’t get enough sun.  Mom does have a tomato plant on the deck though – they have just enough sun up there to keep the plant happy enough to give us tomatoes all summer.  I’m not interested in them for eating purposes but Mom and Dad like them so that’s good enough for me!!

My Dad’s at the airport this morning flying his plane.  I thought maybe I’d get Mom to upload a picture she took of our little town of Warrenton from the air – pretty neat huh?

Warrenton viewed from a cockpit

Warrenton, Virginia as the birds see it!

You can’t see our house in this picture but I’ve posted a picture of it before on my blog….Mom and Dad flew over the house and got a way cool shot of MY domain from the air!

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a bird?  I wonder all the time.  If I wasn’t such a scaredy cat and afraid of loud noises, I bet my Dad would take me flying with him in the airplane.  There’s only two seats in the plane but I could sit behind him up on the little tray where the headphones sit……I’d have a GREAT view just like the birds have up there.

Meanwhile back here on earth we’re hoping that all our friends near the water stay safe from the storm.  That goes for all the birds, deer, bears (!) and humans too.

Happy Friday peeps!

  1. That bear was probably looking for anything to eat, including cats, don’t fool yourself, Sammy. They are not warm and fuzzy creatures like you are. I agree that animals probably have to forage further and further from their normal range to find food. It has been a tough year for them.

Hah! I can just see you in that plane with daddy. I bet he wouldn’t try that again. Haha! Maybe if he put some earmuffs on you, that might work.

    • Uncle Jerry, Mom told me the picture of the bear in the paper made him look CUTE but they can be really destructive and mean so I’m just going to hope that guy moves on……….there’s more woods around here so perhaps he’s found a better place to hang out! As for flying with Dad…..yeah – if I could borrow Mom’s headset I bet I wouldn’t hear a thing…..now there’s an idea!! 🙂

  2. My mom is with you, Sammy: she’s a scaredy cat when it comes to flying.

Love the picture of your yard – and the aerial view of your city. I think Mom and Dad have been to Warrenton, but I’ll have to ask to be sure.

    • Hi Sundae! We just visited your Mom’s blog and saw those photos of your house before and during Hurricane Isabel….wow….I would have been REALLY nervous when the river came up that high. It’s awfully pretty where you are that’s for sure – but let’s hope you don’t have to look out in your backyard and see what you saw when Isabel came this time around. Warrenton is a nice town (so says my parents anyway – I’ve only seen the inside of my vet’s office and my own house) – small enough to be “homey and small town-ish” but big enough to have nice places for my parents to enjoy. Me? I enjoy my HOME SWEET HOME!

Stay safe Sundae……………..I hope it’s a QUIET weekend for you all.

  3. Hi Miss Layla…..oh yeah I’m always with one of my parents whenever I’m outside – I used to always wear my harness and leash when I was out but a couple of years ago when Mom noticed I was sticking very close to her or the house whenever I was out she quit putting it on me (unless of course it’s DARK outside then I always wear it). Anyway, hopefully that bear is long gone by now……So Merlin got to fly? Wow….I’m jealous.

Hope you all get through the weekend OK. We’ll be thinking about all our friends Irene is going to “visit”………..take care and stay safe!

    Your friend Sammy

    • Hi!! Thanks for stopping by……we’re all ready for whatever comes our way – Mom and Dad tell me as of this morning though we seem to be lucky here in the area of Virginia where we live. It’s just outside the area where the storm is going to be the worst so we’ll be getting a lot of rain (yippeeee!!) and some wind (hmmm…) but shouldn’t lose power or have any problems……hopefully.

Big Hugs for thinking of us – – Mom and I are worried about Dianna, Sundae and her family though!!
